Posting up Prices in USD Amounts

Posting up Prices in USD Amounts in the Title.

It should be banned or stopped somehow, we are Australian not American and the AU Dollar isn't good anymore.

Just my 2 cents :)

but you cant give a standard aud price as most cards have different conversion rates and fees.

your poll is bad , its not a problem.

    • You give an approximate in the title.

As long as it's stated that the price is in a foreign currency in the title, it's fine.

Of course the USD Amount should be in the title. It alerts you to the fact it isn't an Australian store.
No use putting an Australian Dollar amount as exchange rates varies and also different payment methods will determine the final cost.

You say "the AU Dollar isn't good anymore", doesn't mean there are not going to be good deals to be had.

  • I think if possible, there should be a rule on what USD should be displayed as. I've seen many people going by different rules, which is rather irritating: US$, USD$, $xxx USD, etc (the worst one would be the one without any indications on whether it is USD or not). I think there should be at least some rule stating what USD should be shown as. Also if possible, OzBargain would benefit from having USD$ as a different colour to normal $ (which we automatically assume as AUD), that way we can use the colour code to immediately know that it is USD. Though this would really depend on whether it's worth the trouble for Mods to implement this.

I personally don't like the idea of using AUD in the title if it is USD because people get different exchange rate (which does have some impact on what the final price is). Also, there are deals that are simply an extention of what it was, it can simply be from changes in USD AUD exchange rate (in that case, I personally think it should be treated as a price change, not a new deal).

    Just my 2 cents

    Is that USD?

  • If you have Firefox, use this addon
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/converter/

It automatically converts currencies on the web page into your desired currency. Just highlight the text you want converted and it will show you in the context menu the AUD currency.

  • We have a similar discussion in another thread last December.

Just type xxUSD to AUD into google it takes all of 2 seconds…

Every price should be Australian, immediately followed by the foreign equivalent in brackets where necessary. We all know exchange rates fluctuate.

The point isn't just that exchange rates fluctuate. It's also that different people will get different exchange rates based on their method of purchase. Not everyone uses 28 degrees etc.

I think the title should be reflective of the true price, not a snapshot at a point in time that can potentially be incorrect.

  • Agreeing with the majority of people on here. USD$—-

I don't mind the price being in USD if it clearly says it in the title right next to the amount. But I do have preferences.

When I see this Crucial M550 SSD 128GB $55, 256GB $95, 512GB $175 USD Delivered @ Amazon it is slightly annoying as I am looking for key words when scrolling ozbargain and having the USD at the end but not before the prices can get me excited. For example I prefer this PNY Turbo USB 3.0 32GB/64GB/128GB/256GB - USD $11.88/$19.99/$34.99/$69.95 + $6 Shipping @ Amazon.

But my most preferred method is when it says "roughly $658" or "~$658" as I instantly know the rough price in AUD and that I will have to make the payment in foreign currency. While including the specific foreign price in the description.

It should show the foreign currency and and the approximate converted rate in AUD.
If not the site should be renamed to USDBargain
