Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge: a Bit of Disappointment

Hi guys,

Started this topic as to see what everyone thinks of the new Samsung products.. Personally I didn't quite like it , well just like every other year which I was hoping they do something different to the iPhone. I have an iPhone 5s at the moment and was thinking to switch to android. I thought about OPO and XiaoMi but one problem is that they don't have Aus support=[.

Anyway, the new galaxy phones won't let you to remove battery and memory card😐, and it even looks like an iPhone now …I'm not a Samsung hater but come on 😐😐😐

If you were to switch to s6 what are some of the features that attracted you the most?

  • The new S6 looks like a pimped out version of iphone generations of the past, mixed together.

Front + Back glass takes us back to the iphone 4, whilst the form factor is more of the 6 with the curves. Makes me wonder if Apple are going to pull a 'i did this first' on this because it is 'remotely similar' to what they offer, and thus call for a lawsuit.

Also with the glass, wouldnt it make the phone heavier than it needs to be, and make it much more susceptible to damage?

    • Also with the glass, wouldnt it make the phone heavier than it needs to be, and make it much more susceptible to damage?

Yeah, that's the only change in the phone that I'm particularly unhappy about. Glass just makes no sense to me. I mean, even if you don't manage to break it in the long run, it'll be scratched to shit if you don't put a protector on it (far more than metal and far, far more than plastic would). Why would you want to be worried about breaking 2x more glass than before?

      • Uhh.. Actually I think glass scratches the least. It isn't your ordinary tabletop glass. I never had problems with my iPhone 4s back glass panel. Metal is actually much more susceptible. Plastic is… I Don't have any personal experience.

        • Eh, I've seen my sister's caseless Xperia Z1. Pass. I've had my Nexus 5 for over a year now and it has barely any scratches on the back.

  • one feature I would get it is Wireless charging

  • Eh I felt the s5 was just a bit better 4 and expected a lot more in the s6. But seams it's just another minor improvement. I'll b getting the lg G4.

Does this phone still make phone calls and send txt messages?

    • +1

pfft… who needs that nowadays… we gotz teh internet yo.

    • A phone for calls and txt? What is this, 2004?

  • I like it.

I was expecting a BIG overhaul on the design… a very impressive design. And I was impressed. It's simply beautiful.

It's like they've got the traditional Galaxy phone (plastic), and fused in some class - Alpha-like body (metal) + glass (like my Nexus 4). Beautiful.

  • With the galaxy s6 and s6 edge Samsung have opted to go with style and work of art and very high spec insides.
Samsung have foregone practicality such as removable battery SD card and water resistence.
It figures since Apple have none of those and still rake in billions it need not have any of those.
criticism aside the s6 is a beautiful handset and needs to be looked at as such.

  • To be fair… Samsung does improve with the 14nm processor. So i would like to see how much improvement in battery. The new mmc memory should speed things up alot so thats why they took out the microsd because having to read from the microsd will slow things down again. The camera new low light feature also seems to be a huge improvement compare to the iphone 6
