Company Won't Respond to My Questions about Returning a Sample Product, What Do I Do?

Hi,

Basically I'm in an industry where I'm often sent electronic product samples by companies. This includes everything from mobile phones to computer mice, to laptops, tablets and various other electronics. Depending on the product I'm usually expected to give it back, or the company would indicate to me that I can give it away. Awesome.

However, one company in particular sent me a mechanical keyboard, and they're not responding to my emails to find out what happens next. I've had this item since January and I've asked them at least twice on how to proceed with no emails back. Not only am I not receiving a response from my contact there, but nobody CC'd is responding either (which is about 3 or so different people).

What do I do with the product? Do I do with it as I please or what? I'd send it back but I don't even have their return address (it's a multinational company).

How many times do I contact them or have to wait before it legally becomes my property?

Thanks in advance.

    It might be slightly different because this is business to business, but here's the basic rundown;

    1. Write to the business asking them to collect the goods. They have one month to do so.
    2. Don't write to them and they have three months to collect the goods.

    Otherwise, they are yours to dispose of.

    Great response Daab, very informative.

    ausmech, it sounds to me like the company gave you the keyboard from the outset; i.e. they were never expecting to get it back. Thus no one there is in a hurry to respond to your communications (each recipient is probably thinking one of the others will respond to it, and no one is caring much anyway because they always intended for you to keep it).

    It may cost them about as much to make one as they would have to pay you to send it back…
