Don't see the reason why should someone buy a refurbished TV from a B grade brand while every now an than you can get brand new from similar or better brands for a similar price.

    My thoughts anyway……

  • You need a TV in your garage?

Maybe he does a lot of DIY projects in his garage so a TV would be handy. Think about it. Building a dresser with the cricket showing on the side.

      • That' it!

You need a TV in your garage?

Where else can you watch the footy in peace and quiet ?

    (was $399)

isn't that price for a new one ?

    • Spanking brand new one is $499

      • I'm pretty sure JB would sell a new one to you for a lot less than $499…

        • JB sales people would try and flog you an LG or Samsung if you showed any interest in a SONIQ. I hear they don't have big margins to SONIQ TVs, so not sure how much further they can drop it. Anyways…18month warranty sounds sweet for me.

Friend at SONIQ couldn't get me a further discount…told me to pick it up for FREE.

I bought one of these nearly a year ago and it was pretty awful out of the box. There is far too much red in the picture, and even with red turned all the way down, every person on-screen looked sunburnt. It seems to affect mainly HD picture, SD isn't so bad for some reason. It's a common problem according to Whirlpool. Despite being matte, the screen is also quite glossy compared to the Soniq 42". It could just be that the much larger surface area catches more reflections, but we didn't have ANY problems with the 42" Soniq that was in the same room beforehand. I actually had to install blinds in the room to make it watchable in the afternoon, whereas with the old 42" we could watch at any time of day without noticing any glare.

After following the directions on the thread below, with some heavy tweaking using the service menu, it's now showing what I'd consider 'barely acceptable' picture quality. But it's still not great. Bright colour pictures now look pretty good, and skin tones are now fairly natural, but dark scenes still show too much red, or are very grainy, or both.

If you mainly watch bright shows, it's a very good deal. But if you watch a lot of sci-fi or movies where people walk around in the dark (horror, zombie, vampire movies etc) you'll probably be quite disappointed.

I've resisted the urge to return it as the wife is very happy with the bright colours and doesn't seem to notice the grainy picture (maybe she needs glasses?) and if I hold off another year I can probably either get a 4K TV very cheap, or a better brand Full HD TV cheaper. From memory you can sometimes pick up the same size Sony for the $450-$500 mark, so it's probably better to hold off.

My extended family own plenty of Soniq TVs now, 32" and 42" 3D models, which are all fantastic. This 48" is the only disappointing one.

Don't forget the @ss has fallen out of the AUD, so the super cheap appliance honeymoon is just about over.

Avoid "refurbished" Soniq, there's a good chance you'll end up very disappointed. Read this thread from Oct/Nov 2014 first. I got stuffed around like many others. Thought they had finally sorted it out, but my plasma lasted barely six weeks.

(Apologies OP, hate negging your first deal but Soniq has recent poor form with their refurbished TV's. If this is an invalid neg, admins will revoke it.)

    • does this tv have a power brick? or internal power.

i returned a 24" -inbuilt dvd- TV 6 months ago wihtinn warranty. there was a dvd in the player so the JB guy plugged in a new power brick and the TV turned on and ejected the disc. He then gave me the new TV and power brick.

so he could have just handed over my old tv and new power brick but replaced the lot. that said - refurbished can mean powerbrick died and TV is fine.

      • no power brick

      • No powerbrick.

SONIQ providing an 18 months warranty shows they have some kind of confidence…I'm relying on that for protection.

All my TVs are Soniq, I have no problems with them. My 48" died after 5 years which is fine by me. Got another 2 at home seeing heavy usage and going strong for a while now (4 and 2 years).

I watch TV for the storyline, perhaps if I was into explosions and special FX like most Hollywood garbage I would be more inclined to get something with a better picture.
