Cheapest Car Rental from Melbourne to Rural Areas?

Hi kids,

You might remember me from such forums as this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/167627

(I've saved enough for another car, now just looking and waiting for the right one)

Any who, I've just landed my dream job (hooray!!), but it turns out I need a car now. And by now, I mean yesterday.

I can get away with not having a car on most days, but around once a fortnight, I will need to drive long distances to the country for overnight stays. The owner of the company suggested that I hire a car for these occasions, as I will be in charge of bringing key heavy, bulky items to my job.

My question to you is this: What is the cheapest rental company I can use that will allow me to rack up lots of kms and allow me to take their cars for holidays to rural areas? Small hatchback would suffice, not looking for a big car

      As far as I know, they're not unlimited km. A workmate of mine used them last year with no hassles though, so maybe :)

    Perhaps those vans with spray paint all over them? (usually used by backpackers)

      Wicked Campers. Looked into them, they're only cheap for long term rentals

    I did some research and found Britz, who offers the car I want for $70 a day including insurance, excess reduction and unlimited km :)
