RYDAMX14

Hi,

I have been looking around for good deals on GPS and found the following two models.

First of, LMT stands for Lifetime Map & Traffic updates, whereas LM is only Lifetime Map updates.
Also, by Lifetime they mean the lifetime of the product (around 5 years).
Both these models were released in 2014.

I found the Nuvi 65 LMT (6" at 800x480) for $158.85 (use coupon RYDAMX14 for free shipping): https://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=NUVI6…

DSE is selling the same model for $229, JB-Hifi for $229, TGG for $218 and HN for $188 (on sale).
According to my findings, Ryda is a genuine Garmin Australia distributor.

The second model is the Nuvi 55 LM (5" at 480x272) for $118 on clearance: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/garmin-nuvi-55lm-5-inches-gps-…

RRP (according to the Garmin website) are $229 and $169 respectively.

I hope it will help you, if you are in the market for a new GPS unit!

If you buy one please don't stick it in the middle of your windscreen under your rear vision mirror. Every time I see that I have an overwhelming desire to ram that car.

You really need to loosen up

    • I bought the Nuvi 65 LMT. However, I do not understand what you mean. Where you you want me to stick it then?

      • +1

        Refer to user name :).

    • Not sure whats wrong with that.
My dashboard is constructed in a way that won't allow a GPS to be mounted to the right side pillar.

I do position it very far down the middle just on top of the dashboard though.

I hate the people who put it REALLY high up so everybody else on the road can see it. lol.

I agree with TightBottom. I have seen a few drivers sticking their GPS in the middle centre of the front windscreen. It is not a safe practice. Best position is to stick it at the right bottom corner of the front windscreen, otherwise at the bottom of midline position.

      • Correct.

        • I would rather not see a flying seagull and hit it than not see a child crossing the road….

I have just moved mine to the middle under my rear vision mirror..just for you.

        Grrrrrrrrrrr

  • the 65LMT model is currently on sale for $188 at Harvey Norman

    • Not sure what your point is, lol.
They are selling it here for $158.85 (with free shipping code). It is still $30 cheaper than HN.

      • Harveys should price match

        • +1

Lol, its Hardly Normal…. they will def give you an excuse not to price match.

Prepare to hear one of the following excuses:
          1. They only have 1 store, which makes returns harder, it is not equivalent to our X amount of stores.
          2. It is not in the same suburb as us
          3. Its under our cost
          4. Go buy it from them if you want it

        • +1

          @lplau: 100% agree!

I always hear excuse 3, and then 4.

So now I dont even bother anymore.

      • The cheapest alternative price listed when I made my post was $218 from TGG, so I thought it was a good idea to let other readers know that the potential savings weren't quite as high as stated. I did upvote the post as I still thought it was a good deal - which is more than you did.

    • $188 is more expensive than $158.85

Telling us a more expensive deal is worse than upvoting.

You buy now from Ryda thenyou take you're $30 and buy something nice… hopefully something like a basic maths course.

        Or perhaps a spelling course.

  • would this be quicker than a android phone (with A-GPS & 4G) in obtaining a lock-on with GPS?

    • For me they lock at about the same time. Only time it takes slightly longer is when you are in the CBD where there is heaps of high rises, it may put you on the wrong adjacent street.

      • thanks Iplau, BTW do you know of a way I can achieve quick lock with GPS (on an android phone that has no data connection)? reason is I'm using an old phone for GPS, but I always have to have a sim card that has about 50MB of data included…bit of a pain… can I somehow use one of those GPS antennas (small black box you place on your windscreen) to speed up the GPS lock on?? Thanks

        • Don't think there is any way to do that. As phone GPS doesn't have an external antenna port.

        • @lplau: oh well….thanks :(

  • Where do you enter the shipping code?

    • +1

      before you check out…
you need to make an account beforehand, or the code doesnt work (says its been used)

took me a few goes to work it out.

  • +1

I have the Nuvi 2595, and I have to say, without having used other brands or models, the directions need some work. And yes, its all updated with lifetime maps.

It sends me down a street to turn right at the end, where no right turn is permitted, and hasnt been permitted for years. Had this a number of times.

When heading down Gympie Rd (Brissie), it tells me to keep to the right lane to take the Clem 7, but the Clem is from the left lane, once you leave Gympie Rd you keep right. But its saying to keep right on Gympie Rd, a 3 or 4 lane Rd at this point. If you keep right, youll miss it and during the day, youre not going to get tot he left if you work it out.

It tells you the marked speed limit, and gets it wrong a lot. Well, too often for my liking. Sometimes its overstating the limit which is bad.

No idea if this model is the same or not but thought it might be worth mentioning. For all I know, others are worse.

    • Mapping fault. Try downloading the latest (which still might have errors).

      • As I said, its updated. It does have errors, many of the same errors. There are sections of rd it thinks are the middle of a paddock, but the road is as its been for many yrs. Im almost certain consumer GPS was not around (at least far from prevalent) when the road may have gone where they are suggesting it is. Ive been here 20 yrs, its always been where it is now.

        • Report it to Garmin. The only way they know of serious mapping errors is if people who know about them log them. Doesn't guarantee they'll ask their mapping provider to fix it but if it's a major error such as the one you've mentioned above you might be lucky.

  • TomTom struggles to keep up with speed limit changes

  • Not sure if people are aware but "lifetime" map updates usually means life of the gps unit, as in how long the manufacturer supports that model.

    • OP included that in his description almost 10 hours before the time of your post. Its pretty clear.

      • Can't believe I missed that. My bad

    • That is true. My GPS from Garmin with LMT is still getting updates and its around 4yrs old.
The good thing with Garmin is how they built it, pretty much all the maps are exactly the same format so it is across platform.

  • thanks again to the OP…
my one turned up last night… preloaded the maps and software updates with no problems, and also downloaded a few voices (homer and marge simpson, wallace and grommit, sesame street caracters, yoda and dath…etc)..
