Am after a Data Recovery Service for HDD

I am not having much luck of late with computer equipment.

I have a Samsung Story 2TB USB external HDD - HD204UI/VP4 Manufactured Dec 2010.

(I cannot recall how much data I had on it, but decided to make take a look tonight and discovered it would not work - powers up fine, no nasty clicks or weird sounds). Windows message pops up to "Format disk" (which I didn't)

I checked with disk management and a few various apps, like hard disk sentinel, HDTune, Find & Mount, and Crystal Disk Info but nothing helps my situation.

I think I have to resort to a service which may be able to recovery my data somehow?
I prefer to go to a bricks & mortar service (near Sth Syd), than a send away online service somewhere….

Any recommendations welcomed…

  • try the demo version of GetDataBack
if it works, you will be able to see what's on the disk and can then decide whether to buy it ($100-ish) or send disk off to have data recovered (they'll likely use same software and charge same if not more!).
You could also try some Linux Live CDs with data recovery tools if you are slightly technically capable.

Might just be a corrupted filesystem. Try chkdsk. If you want to see if it's a fault with the hard drive, then run Seatools.

Edit: This happens when the system is writing the filesystem and is unsafely ejected.
