    Pillow Pets $5 (RRP $25)

very misleading there is only one that sold for $25 with a saving of $20….

    • All because of dimensions

      • There is also a zebra, a bug, a penguin and a butterfly (all full size, not the mini ones). All $5. A couple of others remain at $12.

[edit] although I could be wrong, taking another look… 'lite' might mean mini.

        • I think 'lite' is in reference to the fact they light up, no?

  • Pillow pets are good but no click and collect on orders under $40.. Wtf?

  • Pool and beach toys were 40% off when I was in Big W today … the deal was marked as expired ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182847 ) but at least some of that was still on sale.

Went down to pick one of the giraffe pets up at my local knowing they had stock. Scanned at full price and they refused to go with the online price. What I do not understand is I can pay online and do click and collect at my local therefore taking their stock but cannot just get it for the same price, same stock, in person? Makes no sense at all.

    • I agree. The Friends Lego was scanning at RRP in the store too.

Same exact issue I had months ago. Found a product online for $9. Thought I'd just go into my local store and buy one off the floor.

Except they were marked as $20. Took it to the register, still scanned up at that price. Manager then came over and gave me a long spiel about how "Big W Online and Big W stores are completely separate" along with all her frankly made-up reasons for why the prices vary so much between online and in-store… needless to say I thought it was utterly bizarre logic and a strange way to run things considering how other major retailers operate their online stores/sites and prices… but hey, their loss. Big W Online has that nonsense 'click and collect only for purchases >$40' too (I think there's a similar dumb rule for delivery). How does that make sense? So.. you can buy online and pick it up in store, but there's a minimum purchase? lol. Okay.

I ended up buying the item I needed from a totally different retailer out of spite :) My own little protest.

      • We had a similar experience not so long ago. I went to Big W to get a hairdryer for the Mrs. It was on special online for $49 but in store the price tag was over $70. I asked one of the staff if I could buy it online on my phone and collect in store right away. He said I could but then turned out that their system wouldn't allow them to do that because its different stock or something.

So I paid $70 for the dryer…and of course when I got home, the mrs wasn't happy. Her "little protest" was not to use it. She left her hair to dry naturally: it had that slightly tousled/waviness to it. She looked crazy hot at the wedding.

Anyway, 2 days later I got a txt to say that the hairdryer that I've bought online was ready for collection. Went in store, returned the unopened one that I had bought less than 48hours ago and collected the other one. When we opened the box, we realised that not only was there the vs sassoon hair dryer but they had also included one of those hot thingies that makes curls…and all that for $49! Karma's a b*tch Big W :-)

Click & collect doesn't use store stock - it is shipped from Big W's or their supplier's warehouse to the store. That probably makes even less sense.

      • Yeah even less sense. Especially when they had lots of stock in store of the particular item.

      • Stock for online purchases comes from a larger bigw warehouse and is not related to store stock. This is for many reasons such as if one item was purchased a lot, the store might not be able to handle the demand or sometimes the bigw you are picking up from does not stock that particular item (all stores are ranged differently based on what they sell well or how big the area or the store is - but generally they are quite similar). Click and collect simply means you pick a store that is most convenient for you to collect your goods from - as mentioned in the first line those goods aren't physically taken from the store shelf, it is sent from the warehouse to the store for you to pick up.

Edit: I work as a casual night fill associate at bigw and this is what I have been told by my manager :)

        • Maybe so but still silly they will not honour the online price. On that note can anyone see anything with this clearance saying "online only"?

@Ravensbane: I am purely guessing from this point on because all I do is fill stock lol:

It is online only because online is separate to the physical store and this is financially as well. The store sales gets counted all up based on what the store sells from it's allocated stock not online (say they were given 10 toasters to sell at $10 each and are expected to get $100 for it, online bigw has way too much in it's warehouse as they aren't selling well, so they list it up for $5 - if a customer comes wants it for $5 in store, the store loses $5 which effects the total sales of the store). Edit: To add to this, one might say why can't the warehouse send out more stock to the store after the sale? That's because everything functions strictly according to a system, so one can't simply throw a few toasters on a truck and send it out to the store to compensate for the toasters sold at $5.

Each store has a sales goal by the end of each day and that is hurt if they honour online prices as they have nothing to do with the online store front. I know my attempt to explain it is a bit of a fail (could potentially be wrong) as I don't completely understand it myself but it comes down to the way bigw works and the way they choose to operate the business is quite similar to other businesses out there.

Hope that helps in some way, I'll try to ask my manager on my next shift and see if I can get any details. In my own experience before working for bigw, on several occasions I got online prices honoured but that was a few years ago.
