Medjool Dates Pricing / Scanning Error @ Coles 907gms for $10 (Normally $18)

130

The 907gram packs of medjool dates were unpriced last night in Bendigo so I asked the price and they said $10. Loose they are $20 per kg. So I got 2 packs. Today at Kangaroo Flat store I saw they were priced at $18. So I got one scanned and it said $10. So I got a couple more packs. On my receipt the 907gram item scans as the 454gram item which sells for $10.

Not just limited to 1 store. Could be nation wide? If you love dates, grab a bargain. Maybe it's a scone time…

They'll have this fixed pretty bloody soon.

  • Didn't fix it over night. But I would be quick. I did not realise it was scanning as the wrong product.

Loose they are $20 per kg. Nothing worse than a loose date!

I've honestly never tried one, I'm sure I'm not the only one around here, what are they like? Texture, taste?

These are seriously awesome, if you're not sure then maybe just buy a couple of loose dates to try.
If you like dates, these are the best IMO.
Be careful not to bite into them too hastily though, they have the seed inside.

They are very sweet. The fruit is dried so the sugar intensifies. If you want to try one sometime, just order a date-scone next time you are at a cafe. Or grab a couple loose at the supermarket. Make sure they are Medjool dates though, some cheaper ones are - well cheaper for a reason.

  • I hope they are not from China.
The package says "Product Of USA", however they may just be referring to the packaging being a "Product Of USA"?

I think there are labelling laws that protect that.

That's what all those Aussies with Hepatitis A thought as well.

        • Oh you mean the Nanna frozen raspberries packed in China. Err kind of a different situation in so many ways but I see your joke now.

        • Except they didn't say "Product of Australia". Otherwise, yeah.

'Product of' means it's actually sourced/grown in that country.

It's the one you can actually trust, unlike the others which allow so much room for ambiguity and unknowns.

      Very handy page :)

      • Not necessarily. The Kiwis allow importing Chinese produce, bagging it in NZ and then they send it to Aus as "Product of NZ". Next time you're at Colesworths take a look at the frozen veg and the amount that are "from NZ".

mmm dates. Home made sticky date pudding + vanilla ice cream FTW!

Dates are like nature's caramel, or chewy toffee. nom nom

  • No boxes in Fairfield forum's Coles, only loose ones.

Great thing about a coles supermarket, there is another one just down the road a bit.
