I have been using a 32" 1080p tv as a monitor for several years but it is starting to drop hints that the end maybe coming.
So is a 48" 1080p tv to big to sit just under a meter from? or should I stick to the sub 40" ones?
Anyone Using a 48~50" TV as a Monitor?

are you currently wearing glasses? how thick are they?
No I don't wear glasses :)
Games and movies are much more immersive when your screen takes up most of your field of view, plus spending ~16 hours a day on a small monitor is hard on the eyes especially as you get older.
It does require the tv to be setup correctly as well or it will burn your eyes out on normal settings:)I am currently using a Full HD Projector giving me 120" screen and I game sitting around 4 meters set back, so I understand what you mean about it being more immersive :-) When I got a Samsung 46inch full HD LCD TV I found it a bit too large for general PC use at 60-70cm setback…. so I would say 48-50inch would be too excessive. Maybe a 42 inch would be better.
Under a metre?? Yep. 27"-32" would be the best for <1m. Go to the retailers and watch a screen for a few minutes. Try and focus on all parts of the screen.
