Data only plan for tablet for $10 a month?

Hi guys,

I've got an elderly person here who is using a 3G tablet to regularly use as dedicated WeChat and Facebooking machine.

I'm looking for a tablet-friendly plan which can offer between half gig to 1GB of data a month with as few pitfalls as possible (e.g no excess charges — it simply stops connecting when data is used up).

Preferably not self-renewing — just add more data when needed but I think this kind of plan probably doesn't exist.

He is currently with Amaysim As-you-Go but they bill by the megabyte (5c/mb), which I think eats through his prepaid credit quicker.

probably best to just buy him a Vodafone data prepaid card and put it in, you can buy big blocks of data in 6 and 12 month hits.

      http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/wireless-internet/mobileā€¦

      $125 for 15GB with 365 days expiry.

comes down to $10.42 per month with 1.25 GB.

Sounds ok… especially when vodafone seems to bill by kb

      • Thanks. Vodafone and Optus looks to be the best value.

When you're using these data-only SIMS, is it possible to make phone calls on them?

His tablet has the ability to make calls and he may sometimes screw up the dual SIM configuration and accidentally make phone calls on the wrong SIM, thereby wasting precious broadband credit.

        • Personally havent used it before… So i cant help you there, perhaps someone else might be able to enlighten us?

  • I use Amaysim as well, and agree the per mb billing makes a huge difference in my usage.
Perhaps the 10Gb/12Gb yearly pre-paid plans would be an option?
Optus has 750mb/30days with 1kb billing, and $130 for 15Gb/365 days.
In fact, I think I might port to them when my plan is up!

  • As above, vodafone replaces the light usages + anyone with captive consumer bases/low ARPU fixed line.
Also awaiting the year's first -%15 on recharges, would be nice.

Never used them myself, but $10 month to month, 1gb data?

    • Checked them out too. It seems like it's auto-renewing.

  • Can you buy amaysim data packs? $10 for 1gb. Valid for a month. You can set it to auto renew each month or not. And if you run out, you get cut off until the next renewal.

One can, but remains poor, poor economy against the yearly options IDENTIFIED .
125-dollar "yearly" data, WILL not expire between data sessions, WILL not expire 12 X per-12M either,

+even if +125-dollar (12 +3GB), did not already on face value, seem greater with +25% more thrown in.

  • Telstra has released new prepaid data plans which aren't bad. $50/year for 5GB. Better than Amaysim and others for the occasional user.
