    whats an air compressor

      a device that compresses air

  • +1

How does it compare with the gold standard (Ozito)?

  • Anyone have any experience with this? Wouldn't mind getting another little air compressor to clean out computers.

Edit: Just realised it doesn't use a wall adapter, grr

The little cheapie I posted from Bunnings will do the job perfectly: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182452

Believe the negative reviews/comments all you want, I find it just about right for blowing dust out of PCs and Amplifiers etc. Lightweight & compact design so you don't need to lug the thing around or trip over it but it is a little bit too noisy to use in an office environment but fine in a 'Workshop' type space.

      • Thanks for the recommendation! Doesn't seem like any of my local Bunnings stock them :(. I may have to shop around, I don't particularly want a $100+ as my only purpose is to clean out some computers!

        Thanks though

If you're looking around for a PC dusting compressor you really do need to buy a proper Air Compressor with a storage tank. A standard compressor designed to inflate tyres as above does the same job BUT it just continually pumps air. A compressor with a tank charges the tank full of air and allows you to shoot air in powerful bursts if required but to be honest you'll never need to fully pull the trigger as I've found it far more effective to gently blow the dust out. Also keep in mind that blowing dust under high pressures can force dust into places that can do more harm than good (eg. between RAM & Socket connections) and it's sometimes far better to use a vacuum cleaner with an assortment of micro attachments. I use a combination of gentle compressed air and a vacuum cleaner and have never had any issues plus my Workshop stays cleaner than just using a compressor too. Good luck!

        • @SteveAndBelle:
Thanks for the helpful information, I'll keep that in mind!

        • @SteveAndBelle: Aren't you contradicting yourself? First you say that you need a compressor with a storage tank for bursts of air. Secondly, you say the compressor advertised continually pumps air. Thirdly you saw that you should gently blow the dust out i.e. don't use bursts of air. So your first and third points cancel each other out leaving us with the compressor continually pumping air which is probably fine for computers. Hence your comment was not at all helpful.

        • @coldturkey:
Actually the compressor SteveAndBelle linked has a tank.
tiny one though. but should work for short burts

the one posted doesn't and wont be good for blowing air. just inflating as it cuts on and off to reach pressure

        • +1

@coldturkey: Difficult to explain but buy one, use it for air-dusting a PC and it will make sense :)

Keeping one of these or these on hand does the occasional job adequately for me.

Spoken by someone that has money to blow. $16 for a can of air

        • Well, you're drawing a long bow there. Firstly, I've never paid $16 for a can (one of the links was $9 anyway), secondly, it is compressed air, thirdly, I was suggesting it as an alternative to buying an air-compressor to do the same job. OP might have a warehouse of computers to dust, he might only have one or two, it wasn't specified. Having said that, I'm not doing too bad, and with ozbargain I plan to stay that way ;)

    • as long as you can get a good seal on your exhaust and its not all banged up and not round anymore

Average price for this capacity compressor. Similar spec ones on EBay for cheaper. Hard to see why this is a bargain, unless you have a yellow air compressor fetish.

      not the same type

I never said it was the same, I said it's "similar spec".

@asa79: It does the same job, for less money. What are you not understanding?

      • What do you mean 'not the same type'?
They are both 150psi max, 35L/min flow and 12v/15a
