    so where are the stores…

oh fair enough there are more than i expected

  • +7

Pity it doesn't include 7/11 stores which are their real distribution channel here in Australia…just had 2 for breakfast after filling up the car…now I'm full too

    • Yeh, the real store is just a bit too far a walk for me today as well. Would love a free donut though.

      • +1

It's two blocks from me but still…unless I am going there for something else I don;t think I can be bothered lol

    • +2

      Doughnuts for breakfast…?

      • +2

        i've had pizza for breakfast…any food = breakfast :)

  • +1

Are all stores in Australia "particpating stores"? Particularly the mini-store at Sydney Domestic Airport?

  • +15

    How much are they normally?

    • +7

      Typical jv

      • +4

        You can never satisfy jv!

    • +2

      How much are they normally?

Not worth going out of your way for a free one.

    • +12

The Free ones are normally free.

    • +1

$23.50 for a dozen. I'm not sure how much it would be for just one but it would definitely cost more for individual sales, so I say around $2.50.

    • +15

      They're no good, jv.

Last one I had had a hole in it.

  • +5

1000 currently open or 1000 including all those that shut down when the KK empire imploded in Australia a few years ago and they had to shut them all down except for a handful?

    • +5

      I was wondering that too.

The Holes in the Krispy Kreme Stategy

We are celebrating the opening of our 1000th doughnut shop in Kansas City

1000 stores in Kansas City. They must really like doughnuts…

      • Yeah that sure is a lot of stores in one city. Does it maybe have something to do with the Wizard of Oz?

    • Very similar to Starbucks here as well.

      • Bring on Cinnabon!

        • Yeah, that home page pic of someone using bare hands to smooth out the cinnamon filling would go down a treat in Australia right now.

        • +1

          @catbrain: It's ok, Cinnabon don't use berries

  • +3

1000 free not including those stores that don't feel like it, i.e. MASCOT!

    • Obviously TA is testing who are the real hard-core OB'ers that are going to track those free doughnuts down.

      • +1

Great way to vet the deal considering KK Australia screwed the last deal up - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174254

        • Didn't know about that but I got a few dozens for free on Pirate day.

  • Sweet, thanks TA

Krispy Kreme is the epitome of a greedy business model…here are my timeline of events (in very very short detail)

    • Launch: KK had standalone stores which offered piping hot donuts made from the bakery in-house. We would wait in line to see the red-light flash which means donuts on their way to the counter. Who remembers Penrith in NSW??! =D I used to drive 45mins to get the piping hot donuts!

    • Year later: KK dropped the piping hot release but kept baking in-house

    • Later: KK dropped most of the standalone stores with in-house bakery except for a very few

    • Later: KK standlone stores began selling (old) Donuts which were made elsewhere and couriered to the store

    • Later: Most of the KK stand-alone stores shut and now you have them sold at Service stations, florists, airports, etc and other areas

The reason for all this was cost-cutting, except the last event was probably purely because low demand.

    • +3

How is this greedy business model? KK just have had to adjust to the times. People are more health conscious so you aren't see the droves of people queueing up for dozens of fresh sugar laden donuts. So they moved to a more impulse buy 1 donut model at the service station which suits peoples buying patterns. In fact service stations are probably the epitome of greedy business model. They charge 2-4 times as much normal price for "convenience". It doesn't cost them any more to get the goods or to sell them because they're open anyway.

      • +3

More health conscious? Then why are we fatter than ever?

        • Exactly everyone knows we are too fat so there's a counter culture starting of being fit and healthy. Why else are there gyms and salad bars opening up everywhere.

If not health then perhaps it's economic times? People cutting out luxury items like $2 donuts? All I know is when I drive by I hardly notice any traffic at the KK let alone a 40 min wait.

      • mobo: Theoretical test… If i was openly question:

A.) KK closed it's in-house baking facility in favor of importing ready-made Donuts to the standalone stores from 1 single location to cut costs

B.) KK closed it's in-house baking facility because hardly anyone queued up at KK as they did before

Which of the 2 do you think they will choose?

        • I don't think I understand the question. Scenario B is out of their control so there's no choice.

    • It's not greedy.. It's because the demand for their donuts fell. It was a donut craze.

    • KK never baked in-house at any store except 1 per state.

They just had a lot of high overhead stores (such as those inside shopping centers) that they closed because rent was too high. Those ALWAYS got it stock from the main one, one per state.

      • Never baked but certainly fried. In NSW at least both Penrith and Mascot had in-house manufacturing and I'm pretty sure others including Campbelltown did too.

  • Feeling hungry now… :)

  • If sold out here you can always travel to China or usa :)

    • +1

KK with hepatitis A, who's up?

      • I don't think they use fertiliser to grow donuts.

        • How do you think all the other nuts grow? :P

  • -1

I was told that there is only one factory store in VIC that cooks the doughnuts and apparently if you're there on a weekend they give them out freely.

  • +5

They have the worse locations for any big company.

  • +1

Not falling for this one again… (Perth, WA).

    • you went to the store opening?

    • Same here, not worth it. The wait is already bad as it is on a normal day, not gonna wait hours for a free donut.

      • +1

        Yeah, like an idiot tdw.

Wasn't really keeping track of the news coming out of Whitfords that day and I stupidly thought I could just 'pop in' at 10:40pm and grab 6 or so donuts and go home.
Unfortunately the road outside was slightly lower than the parking lot of the servo, so I couldn't see just how long the queue was until I was too late and I was wedged in between cars.

Got home at 4am on a work night … still ridiculed by mates to this day!

        • +1

          dreadful.

glad i couldn't be bothered dragging my arse out there that day..

  • +1

It's around $2.50 per single glazed donut, if you buy individually. And 200 calories.

    • +2

Calories.. the measure of deliciousness :(

  • +1

I've never had one - are they any good?

  • Sydney CBD Central Station

AWWW YIIIISSS hopefully there would still be some left at 3/4-ish. Munchies on the way to uni!

  • i have found that they (kk donuts from 7/11) don't look that impressive now compared when you used to get them from proper kk stores

    • Hence my point above

  • If you miss out on a freebie, don't forget KKK Wednesday.

Krispy Kreme's KKK Wednesday is the most racist way to enjoy doughnuts

  • +1

Cool!! Another freebie for my birthday - which happens to be that day :-)

  • Email was just sent before

    - No signage
    - No mention
    - No free doughnut

    • sorry you missed out :( thanks for the tip though, you saved me a trip up there in this heat.

    • Did you show them their own website? It's on the front page. When you click 'Find your nearest store', Whitfords City shows up.

      • +1

I didn't, because I was unaware of the deal at the time.

    • I got a free donut at Whitfords this morning. The employee even mentioned it was to celebrate their 1000th store. You must've got there before they got the memo.

      • Probably. It was around 5:30am. Glad you had better luck.

  • Both Melb stores gave me a freebie :)

  • Anyone in Brisbane get any? What do you say to them?

    • Brisbane city store was giving them out

  • +1

    BP Coomera

More like BP New New Zealand :)

Went there today, mentioned "free promotion" to lady, she knew all about it and gave me 3x donuts (for the family) :)

  • went to caboolture and was refused
