Not laptop savvy, best option below $700

I am looking for a laptop for uni. Although I'd like to game I know that within my price range I can't find a laptop with a decent graphics card. I am looking at getting it from the major retailers as I need one within the next week. Although I have no idea about laptops I have been considering this one.

I have had a good run with Toshiba so I am inclined to go for that along with ASUS which people have told me is the best brand all round. I haven't considered any other brands but I'm open to the possibility if they have good reviews.

Any advice is much appreciated

  • Google dell outlet. I don't think I would purchase from anywhere else. they're refurbished but dell have an excellent warranty and I've heard most of them are like brand new.

    • they are constantly adding stock too so it might be worth to check it out a few days in a row

Main problem with cheap laptops is weight and battery life becomes a huge killer. I know the lenovos should end up with ok battery life, maybe 4-5 hours on wifi as oopposed to the standard 2-2.5 hours i see.

  • if the main purpose is to watch youtube on big tv (ie browse youtube on laptop which is connected via hdmi to tv),
will dedicated graphic card can offer smoother experience compare with built in?

    • +1

No. Look for Intel graphics 5000 and above, and you are great for video and good for light gaming.

  • Do NOT buy from JB Hi Fi or similar outlets, unless they're on a clearance sale.
Try the Dell outlet, as mentioned above. MSY have sweet prices as well.
