[PRICING ERROR] 8 X Mount Franklin 600ml Water for $8.88 at Priceline

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Went into a Priceline store today and noticed near the counter there was a Mount Franklin 600ml water bottle stand. It's labelling had 8 for $8.88 8888ml (in digital font like LCD watch etc.) written on the attached sign. It had to actually be filled in with appropriate figures but the Manager had to honor it. He sold me 8 for $8.00 (over 50% off).

    NQR sell these for $1.04 everyday.

  • +8

    Pretty good bargain, only $1.93/litre.

    • +2

      I +1'd but only because I think you are being sarcastic.

  • +3

    So this was a pricing error, and that signage would've been rectified as soon as you left the store?
    No bargain.

    • +1

      Agree, no bargain here as it relates only to a pricing sign set to a default amount, that was presumable updated as soon as you left.

    Or go to Woolworths and buy 24 bottles of their water for $7.

    • +3

      Exactly, no true OzB'er would pay more than 30c for 600ml spring water.

  • +8

    It's water. Petrol was selling cheaper 2 weeks ago - and that travels miles in tankers and is processed. This is the stuff that drops our of the sky!

    From Wikipedia:

    "Mount Franklin (company) is also the name of a mineral water producer owned by Coca-Cola Amatil believed by many residents of the area to have an association with the volcano. Neither the source of the water or any historical link with Mount Franklin, Victoria are mentioned on the Mount Franklin water website."

    From Coca-cola's own site"

    "‘Mount Franklin’ spring water is sourced locally and bottled daily. It is triple filtered…"

    Or to put it another way folks, it's what they boasted about 20 years ago - they would soon sell you your own tap-water but put through a filter.

    They have had problems with that:

        It's Ozbargain. Paying over the odds for what comes out of a tap isn't a bargain. Note, this is a comment on the offer.

          @Chthonic:

          4.8 litres @ 8.88. $1.85 a litre. I was wrong - it's still well over the cost of petrol.

          @Chthonic:
          This Chthonic guy is telling others to get off their high horses… lol. Sweet delicious irony.

        • +3

          @Chthonic:
          Thank you for further proving my point.

          @Puff Braddy:

          Post some more deals mate. That's my point. I don't care about your non existent point about irony. You could definitely contribute more.

        • +4

          @Chthonic:
          The very existent point about irony is you're telling others to get off their high horse when you're on a high horse of your own implying other opinions don't carry weight simply because they don't "have enough posts".

          Most people don't stumble across many bargains themselves. Doesn't mean they can't come here and contribute by commenting/appreciating other listings. But it also doesn't mean they can't point out something that they don't feel isn't a bargain. I'd rather have a (very) low bargain listing count than fill up the home page with crap that is barely bargain worthy just to maintain a high post count…

          And hey, this was moved to the forums. Looks like all us 'nay-sayers' were correct, hmm?

          So you, mate, heed your own advice and get off your high horse.

          in b4 lame retort about a couple of paragraphs constituting an 'epic rant'.

          @Puff Braddy:

          Look at my posts. I've actually made a contribution to this website, not just negged at deals and commented about how wrong people are.

          The sad thing is you complain about irony yet you fail to see anyone else's point, specifically mine, about how you're failing to post anything to this site yet justify it by saying "I don't want to post crap"…

          Give me a break. I live in Canberra, not Bris/Mel/Syd yet am able to post decent deals and help people save money where it seems your "contribution" is to whine.

        • -1

          @Chthonic:

          I see your point, but please point out where it says "one cannot criticise other listings unless they have x amount of posts themselves"?

          The only one whinging here is you. My initial comment in this thread was calling this out for not being a bargain. I'm not limited to just that.

          Keep those amazing highly popular burrito bargains coming!!

        • -2

          @Puff Braddy:

          Wait, you're criticizing my contributions based on your most recent observation? Lol. I regularly post deals which reach 100+ positive votes. You've posted a grand total of 9 "deals" and the most recent has done more poorly than the Mad Mex deal I posted.

          I've posted 78 deals and you've posted 9 and have been a member of this site longer than I. Who do you think actually contributes more?

          I disagree with you. Mount franklin water for ~$1.00 per bottle is a bargain and it's people like you that drive away new posters from contributing away since they're met with angst from a bunch of whiny, angry and self-justifying "oz-bargainers" as you self proclaim that never contribute and only bitch about what isn't a bargain.

          FFS we GET IT. TAP WATER IS FREE.

          @Chthonic: I'm just going to point out you're losing your shit over bottled water and a bargain website.

          And it's valentines day too! Let me send you a rose:

          —<-@

        • @Chthonic: Tap water's free now? My water company's been sending me bills for years :(

      • +3

        whoa…no need to be aggressive. terrys post above was polite and informative.

    • People pay for convenience. Are you saying the alternative to this deal is to put empty bottles in the backyard and wait for it to rain and fill up? I'd rather just pay the money and get bottled water (it's okay I have a job).

      • -1

        The alternative to this "deal" is to buy Woolies bottled water for $7 per pack of 24 600mL bottles. ~$0.50/L instead of this Mt Franklin at $1.85/L.

  • +4

    People who buy water are idiots.

  • +2

    The true ozbargainer would simply fill an empty 600ml bottle 8 times for $0…

  • -3

    The number 8 appeals to Asian customers (serious)

  • +1

    You can buy cold bottles of water for $1 at hungry jacks and other stores so no real deal here.

  • I quite like the Woolies home brand water (if I have to buy water). The Cole some brand on the other hand, seems tainted slightly in some way.

    • Bought a 24 pack of coles water which had signs up saying it was $7. The water was in my trolley and the counter person entered it manually and it came up as $8. Complained and the staff confirmed the sign said $7. Coles has a policy that if there is a price error in the scan, the first price error item is free. The manager said it isn't incorrect, because the counter person entered it manually. WTF? They entered the code into the system for the right item but the price was incorrect in the system. This isn't a price error? Next time I am going to put the water on the counter and ask them to scan the barcode. Like it would of made a difference.

      • Report to head office and you will get a refund. It would fall under their scanning policy. Unfortunately some managers will try to get around their scanning policy any way they can think of.

        Others get really angry like you're stealing from then. Maybe you'll even get one to call you a "fraud" and then you never see them again.

      • Looks like Coles just didn't wanna give you the stuff for free, so they didn't apply their own policy.
