Honda Capped Price Servicing Question

Hi everyone.

I am quite confused by how capped price servicing works and was hoping someone could shed some light on this.

So I own a Honda which is a couple of years old. When I purchased the car I was told the car was entitled to a capped price servicing for the first 5 years. The first (6 months) capped price service was $220. The second capped price service (12 months) was $240. The third capped price service (18 months) was $270, and the most recent capped price service (24 months) was $300.

All of these services included an oil change, and the oil filter was changed every second service. I thought that a capped price service meant the price would stay the same for a number of years, thus allowing you to know exactly what you are up for. Instead the price seems to go up all the time. The price does not include extras that need to be changed every few years.

The price of the service can be checked on the Honda website, but how does capped price servicing differ from say me ringing a local mechanic asking for the price of a major service before hand and taking it there instead?

  • if the oil filter is only getting changed at every second service, then it sounds pretty dodgy as it is. The oil filter traps all the dirt and it boggles my mind why anyone would keep it there when you put clean oil in your car and at the same time only saving around 10 bucks. ..

If the Honda dealer did this, I would personally take my car elsewhere.

    • Or maybe because they know this 6 month servicing BS is not even required on modern cars, the oil filter "should" only be changed every 12 months - along with the oil. 6 month servicing is a con.

But I agree, if changing the oil - change the filter at the same time.

  • Hmmm.. interesting. I always thought capped price servicing means that is the most that you would pay for servicing. It could be less, but I have never seen that happen. So for example, first 6 months, if there was something else wrong with the car that needed to be fixed on top of the oil change/filter, the most you would pay would be $220. I could be very wrong.

I stopped going to the dealer after my Mazda warranty expired, because you are right, it just keeps going up as the car gets older. I got quoted $450 one time and I was grumbling about it. The next time it was $650, and I questioned what made this service so special, no one bothered to answer me aside from the usual because that is the price for xxxkms service, so I took my servicing elsewhere.

  • +1

They must be using the better halogen light fluids instead of standard light fluids.

  • what if you purchase a used car with dealer's warranty, do you have to have capped services with them?
