Need Help: Can I Connect My Brother HL1110 to My Router?

Can I connect my Brother HL1110 to my router and Print Wirelessly?

Comments

  • No, it has no wifi http://welcome.brother.com/sg-en/products-services/printers/…

Edit: I don't know but a wireless usb might work.

  • The Brother HL1110 has no networking interfaces, so you would need an intermediary device to send a job to and then to the printer.

You can share the printer on the network though, effectively allowing you to print (but the PC connected to it would have to be turned on).

  • plug it into a computer via usb and share the printer

  • I have a Brother MFC connected to my D-Link router via USB. Needs SharePort Plus on Mac or PC, but maybe there are third party programs or apps that allow printing from, say, a tablet or smart phone.

  • +1

Does your router have a USB port and does the firmware support a printer attached thus? Like the router strangeloops66 has?

Otherwise you can buy Ethernet print servers which turn the printer into a networked printer, starting for around $20. search eBay for Ethernet print server. The equivalent wireless print server starts at about twice the price, almost as much as a router that has the USB port and firmware support for it in the first place. I'm kind of surprised the Chinese manufacturers haven't created a cheap dongle that interfaces between WiFi and USB printers.

    • Yes I once used this method. Actually I bought a 2nd hand print server off ebay for $1

    • D-Link paid me for my router, hehe. Cashback was more than the price Dick wanted for it.

      • Mine was almost as good, it was the $11 router from MSY which works like a champ with DD-WRT. There is a USB port on the back and I think DD-WRT supports it. But I haven't used it because the printer is right next to the server.

  • if your router has the appropriate hardware (a usb port) and appropriate firmware for printer sharing (either manufacturer or 3rd party such as tomato), then you should be able share your printer using the router

  • Thanks guys for your help.
