Isn't Netflix is trying to block all this services?

Also they are coming next month.

    • Netflix has stated that this was a misunderstanding - they are not blocking VPN services.

They are coming next month, but it might still be handy to have a smartDNS to access Netflix content in other regions.

      • Most definitely. I am sure there are other companies here ahem foxtel which will block Netflix from getting their hands on things Australians really want to see.

    • 1) No - was just them using Google's DNS settings by default for Android app.
      2) Yes. However, netflix subs work in any region. If you want to see US, UK etc. library (instead of the lesser Aussie one), you'll need to spoof an "origin" from the target country. That's where these DNS-redirects come in.

    • Netflix has more than one region with different movies in each, so having a DNS service helps you watch a Netflix movie that might not be in your region but it is in another one.
And Netflix isn't trying to block the services, Google it or read the Whirlpool forums.

      • hulu on the other hand actively blocks entire ip pools of datacenters. It was very difficult during beta testing to keep on top of this. Necessity is the mother of invention, so we quickly developed a system to keep on top of this.

    • No they aren't. It was a change they made to the Android app which forced it to use the Google DNS server.

I use Unotelly and have never had a problem with Netflix, or any other overseas service for that matter. I'll probably switch my payment to be through the Australian Netflix site but this will still be handy for switching regions and getting different content.

    • That is not true. They stated that they are not blocking smartDNS/VPN services. It is also true that they are coming next month (awesome). With uFlix, aside from (currently) unblocking Netflix, you can use it to access different regions on Netflix. So, even though they will come to Australia, their content will be licensed only for Australia. You can use uFlix to access other Netflix regions and get more content.

A$2/mth is cheaper than Getflix, but it doesn't have the range of streaming services that they have yet.

OP - do you have region-switching like Getflix (i.e. can change from US to UK netflix by choosing a different region on your profile page)?

    • At that price this is cheapest service I've seen too.

Getflix 12 months for $17.64 has been the best deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/171011

        • With our deal, 12 months will cost you $18. Though, our service is aimed towards different users. However, our monthly payments are just $2.

          @uFlix:

You have a good deal, not all were able to get the $17.64 price, at least all can get this, and as you have said most will get by with the more limited service compared to Getflix etc…

        • @snuke:

Thank you :) I think it is a good deal too. For most users this will be enough. That way we can keep the costs down as we don't have the workload of a traditional proxy. However, for those that need more, we are going to launch a new site (but it will be more expensive) to unblock many channels.

Personally, I pretty much only use Netflix and I believe a lot of others do to, so why pay for something you will never use?

      Hi Linkwick,

Yes, we do have region switching. We just launched so we only have USA/UK for regions, however we will be adding more regions quickly.

The reason we are cheap was due to the beta testing. We noticed pretty much all users were using our service for Netflix and BBC. Because of this we decided to make uFlix a light weight unblocker (Netflix, Hulu, BBC). This keeps the price really low for people who don't need to unblock all of the other channels (crunchyroll, Amazon, etc).

We have a system in place to unblock these other channels, but that will be launched under a new business which will charge slightly higher prices (like regular unblockers). Unblocking and region swapping on only Netflix, hulu and BBC means there is less work to keep up with and thus we can keep our prices low for people who don't need the extra channels.

    Great! top gear YE!

  • Good price if you just want Netflix / Hulu which is what most people are going to want. Shame I have a long sub on Getflix still. I am going to be sticking with US Netflix as I am not convinced AU Netflix will have enough good content when it starts and the idea of having world wide rights sounds nice but I need to see that to believe it (and subscribe to it).

    • Very true. That is where Netflix has the upper hand on everyone else. Australians can simply use a vpn/unblocker ( uFlix ;) ) to access much more content. This will also put pressure on the competition, which is good for Australians who have been getting ripped off by Pay T.V for too long.

      • so are you saying uflix is a vpn?
        is it slow

        • Not a VPN. These services don't reroute ALL your traffic through another server, they just spoof/redirect the IP location to look like it.

Much less reduction in your internet speeds that way.

        • As Linkwick said, this service is not a VPN. It is basically a proxy which only intercepts data that tracks your location. By routing this through our servers, it tricks the location of the user and you are able to view the content.
