Buying Telescope | Should I Get It from US or AU?

This going to be a hard one. I'm looking to buy a Celestron VX 9.25" SCT telescope. Local pricing here is AUD $3899 while US is looking around USD $2099 (+postage)

Understood our exchange rate isn't at the best at the moment hence I'll going to wait for the rate to improve.

That aside, would you buy something this delicate from US and have it send over to AU to save some bucks?

  • I think the price difference validates the arguement to buy it from the US. Provided you still have local warranty it would still would out a better deal. After the exchange rate difference, GST & Postage, you should still be ~$900 in front. Is some extra effort and time waiting with $900, asbolutely. If it doesnt include a local warranty or you need to return to the US…. Still is work it IMHO

  • The other problem would be warranty…it's US based warranty only.

  • +1

I personally wouldn't without insuring it fully. It is delicate but it is heavy as well. I wouldnt count on the Australian dollar going up much either.

    • Yup agreed, you're going to be waiting a long time before the exchange rate gets back to 1:1.

What's the price difference including insurance and shipping?
