Snagit Screen Capture Software 50% off ($25 Instead of $50)

141

I've been using Snagit for years and recently got a notification saying that I can get a "special" upgrade price is $24.95. The regular price is $50.

Upon investigation, the special is available to everyone - even people who have never purchased Snagit before. Version 12 of snagit provides a new license key and no previous key is required during activation.

In other words, anyone can "upgrade" to the new version of Snagit for $25. Bargain!

PicPick is pretty good, and Free.

  • I use screenpresso, does the job. Its a nagware but its free.

Yeah, there's a few free ones out there - there's even one bundled with Windows. The main reason I use snagit is because of the post-capture editor. It makes adding circles, arrows, stamps and so on very easy. Plus you can add an alpha channel to your image etc.

Must agree - Snagit is very polished, plus lots of options around including mouse cursors in snaps, menus etc.

Skitch is very similar, has an easy intuitive interface, and is free:

It's made to integrate with Evernote but it's not a requirement - you can just as easily export to png. Possibly not as full-featured but would be more than adequate for most.

I use Greenshot, which is also free.

Yep, greenshot is the real bargain compared to Snagit.True OzBargainer will get greenshot and save $25. No deal for Snagit!

      • You negged this deal, but you're not comparing apples with apples

        • true having used both, Greenshot is vastly superior.

This is a wasate of $25

I'm comparing a screen capture program to another screen capture program, what is not an apple there? I used Snagit couple of years ago and now I use GreenShot and can tell you that Snagit is not worth $25 extra in my opinion. Just as Snagit does, Greenshot also supports editing the screenshots - you can add highlights, callouts, use shapes and arrows to point an area of the image.

          @dr:

Snaggit: Screen capture and Video capture
          Greenshot: Screen Capture

          Ridiculous comparison

      • You can't neg this deal because you use greenshot. I love using greenshot but snagit is a slick product and has features beyond greenshot.

        Good deal

I use the print screen key on my keyboard 😜

Ever used the Snagit trial? you might notice a few subtle differences between PrtSc and Snagit. Depends on what you're using it for, I guess, whether you need a dedicated screen capture program or not.

    • Can PrtScn capture video (optionally with audio) and save as avi or mp4?
      No, didn't think so.

c'mon man, this is ozbargain. He'll spend 6 hours grabbing print screens and then string them together with a freeware movie maker of some sort, then add audio with his 79 cent microphone that took 9 weeks to arrive from gearbest :-)

I used to use snagit but got tired of needing a new licence for each version. Using Faststone now and very happy. Only $20 for a lifetime licence. Can edit the captures as well.

Fireshot is a good basic browser extension as well.

    • +100 for fastone

+10 for skitch on a Mac

    prtcsn for whole screen
    alt-prtscn for current window
snippy for random area (built into win7)
    camstudio for video

$25 for what extra features ?

    • +2

Snagit has a host of great features. Scrolling window capture, web page zone detection, post capture editor which allows you to edit your captured image, image library, image library catagorization by date and capture source. List goes on.

You can achieve everything that Snagit does with free software and a bit of patience but Snagit provides it one one package.

I do a fair bit of technical documentation and I'd hate to be using print screen and snippy to do all my captures. Snagit is a great time saver in comparison.

At $25 it's half the regular price, that seems like a deal

@Peace Maker - thanks for the link to faststone. looks like a good product with a great price.

  • Anyone know something similar like snagit for mac?
    Cheers.
