[Price Error] Kogan BenQ BL3201PT 32" 4K UHD IPS Monitor $249

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Just found this deal on Kogan's online store, BenQ BL3201PT which is listed for $249 with postage being $9 Australia wide. I have my doubts as the same monitor retails for $1299 on Pccasegear so this might just be a pricing error.

HDMI 1.4 x2
DVI-DL

  • That was an amazing price… good luck to everyone who managed to place the order by time.

  • It's back in stock @ $1299 + delivery.

    • Funny tho that on their DEALS pages its still listed as $249 but when you click on it the product page shows $1299. These ppl need to get their act together.

  • -2

not that im game to try, but i wonder if you can screenshot or cache their website (where it shows $249), buy it at $1299 (or whatever the price changed to) on your credit card, and claim price protection.

  • +3

If anyone actually gets this, I will eat a hat and be very jealous. I predict Kogan email with $10 voucher incoming

  • Damn how did I miss this deal

  • I'm drooling at that- my guess is that it's 99% likely an error that Kogan famously won't honour.

  • -7

Assuming 4000 people paid for this "deal", Kogan are now sitting on $996,000 or close to a million dollars of our money. At a 5% interest rate, over 2 weeks, assuming that's how long they will hang on to it before refunding, they would have then made close to $2,000 in bank interest.

Sending out $40,000 worth of $10 gift vouchers (which lets face it doesn't cost them anything really) with a minimum spend of $XX, means more stock movement and sales revenue for them. And of course not every one of those 4000 people will use the $10 voucher. Either way it is win-win for Kogan.

Sneaky…but smart! (and yes I was one of the 4000 who contributed to Mr Kogan's riches LOL)

    • -2

That's assuming that this was intentional and not simply a mistake…

      • Mistake or not, they're still a winner. Not to mention all the website awareness and publicity.

    • unless we start demanding for CPI adjusted refund instead of $10 gift vouchers

    • +6

Don't forget to pay the staff who needs to issue the refunds and clean the order system. Answer and deal with all the complaints. The marketing/PR people who need to issue the vouchers or do anything else to keep potential customers happy. Hire the guys to improve the processes to avoid these things in the future. I doubt you can make money out of the interest.

      • +5

Those staff and systems are already in place. Many responses will be canned. We live in the age of technology and (non) customer centred service.

        • +1

@highon2str It's things like this that encourage movement to 'canned responses', I doubt those staff had nothing else to do today other then issue refunds and reply to the followup questions over all this. Legitimate customers with orders or ordering issues will suffer from this due to delays in processing their request - this could effectively damage the store reputation to those customers who will have delayed responses.

    • But you need to consider credit card charges (1-2%) plus cost of staff time in processing the refunds. Not worth the hassle and if Kogan were caught doing this the fines would be significantly more.

      • If most were paypal transactions, there wouldn't be fees involved I imagine?

        • PayPal still has fees for merchants.

    • +6

minus the time and effort it takes for their 'operators' to respond to emails when people complain etc etc..

You think they would bother going through all of that for $2k… they turn over something like $100-200 million a year… it's not worth the effort to 'mistakenly' annoy customers for such a minuscule return

oh, and what dreamland do you live in where banks are paying 5% interest on a business's transaction account?

      • They don't care what their operators do. That's what they were hired for and is part of their job role.

Majority of customers wouldn't be annoyed since we already know what we're buying into. Plus there are potentially "free" gift vouchers coming our way.

Not too sure about the specifics of business accounts, although I'm sure there are other ways of making at least 5%, if not through a bank?

        • Ruslan going down to Crown and putting the $1 million on red is not a legit strategy for making 5% in 2 weeks.

    • +8

I really don't think a company as big as Kogan would bother to go to this length just to make just a couple of thousand extra dollars. They would only have to sell a handful of monitors at the actual price to make that.

I 99% don't expect to receive the item but am happy to let them hold $260 for a couple of weeks for the 1% chance it went through.

  • Hey guys, for those who have purchased this monitor. Can you let us know how you go with it and if Kogan does offer store credit or something? Cheers and good luck everyone!

  • now watch as the mountain of upvotes gets felled by a sea of red

    • +1

Now I wait for kogan to wipe his butcrack with OzB money and let out a booming narcisstic laugh in his lavish dunny. Look at these consumers, I can cause them anguish or pleasure with a simple mouse-click.

      • yup as long as peons like us exist lavish his dunny shall be.

  • anyone had delivery confirmations yet?

    Daaaaannggg.

  • +1

Hey guys the price on kogan's website has been updated to $1299, i did not post this deal for the intention of emptying your pockets. It was supposed to raise awareness of what kogan occasionally does with their pricing. For those of you who purchased this monitor hopefully we get refunded in full sooner rather than later. Or be it even better if there is a complementary coupon.

I will keep this post active for a couple more days for those who wish to update us on Kogan's response.

If its too good to be true, it probably is.

    • Everyone knew that.. or at least most sane ppl.. What we also knew is from previous F-ups we will most likely get free vouchers.

  • $25 yay!

  • +1

I am wondering what's gonna happen with the poor employee who made the mistake with the pricing. I hope he/she won't be fired for this.

    • -1

Its was probably a monkey..send him back to the ZOO

Why would you need it? You got it delivered didn't you?

    • -5

or can swap ya with a hoyts movie voucher

  • well done guys

    • +3

If all they wanted was marketing why would they give $25 voucher without any min spend conditions? If they are willing to $25 voucher for marketing purpose they have better ways to do it than risking bad PR through a price error.

I don't think even Woolies or Coles will suck up a $1000 loss on any item because of pricing error.

      • they do that so we dont run off and report them - they know they are clearly in the wrong

        • +1

u get $25 voucher.. not bad! next time if theres a pricing error on kogan, im ordering for sure :P

try this with dick smith or harvey norman.. lol
          you get NOTHING!

    • +3

That is called a policy not a law. Can you point out what law states that they must give it to us for free?

    • +2

That's the SUPERMARKET code of practice. Nothing to do with other retailers that deal in things that aren't groceries. It's also now law, just a code of practice.

    • +4

      God, there's always one…

    • +1

Umm I believe that is wrong. Let's just say some random guy walks along an aisle and slips a $2 price tag on something valued at $100. Even though Woolworths/Coles did not place that sticker price there, they are not obliged to sell the good. If you did your research, the ACCC states that they can refuse to sell the product to you.

      • -5

(profanity) tard do your own research -

If there is a sticker that say
1.2lt coke for $2 then when you scan it come up with $3 each . By lawn you get it free

Every coles and woolworth show this on a letter at the checkout where they sell cigarettes . (Also were they do refunds )

You should also educate yourself and watch abc tv show "checkout"

I am sure kogan are not complaining about the hundreds of new sign up account

        • +1

Wow I'm so glad that you based all on your knowledge on a comedy educational show. Congratulations. How about you do your own research dummy. This happened to me at Aldi, where it showed clearance of 50% and they said it was only supposed to pay 30%. And didn't let me buy it for 50% off.

        • If there is a sticker that say
1.2lt coke for $2 then when you scan it come up with $3 each . By lawn you get it free

What law is this? Can you quote it? And how does this law apply to an online store like Kogan?

You should also educate yourself and watch abc tv show "checkout"

I really pity retailers who have to deal with customers who misunderstand a TV show.

    • I also watch and love the Checkout so I know for a fact that that is not what they say on the show. The POLICY from the ANRA (not law) is:

"If the price displayed at the checkout or on the customer receipt is higher than the shelf price, the customer is entitled to receive that item free of charge… The item free policy does NOT cover goods where the shelf price is $50 or greater."

    • -1

Woolworths and Coles don't do this by law.
They OPT INTO an optional agreement (do some research to find source, I'm lazy, there's a whole website where companies can opt into it) which states if something is mispriced, customer receives it free or at the lower ticketed price for a maximum of 1 of every mispriced product.

As those companies opt into accepting this agreement with a nongovernment agency, they are required by law to honor that agreement. There is NO LAW surrounding the matter.

Edit: see above comment, they quote it directly.

    • -1

I don't see how Checkout on ABC is representative of Federal Parliament's legislative intent. Can you point out what makes this television show a proper source of legal knowledge and advice?

  • -1

Let me know if you are not plannng to use your voucher.

Happy to pay $12.5 for it :)

  • -2

This is the biggest pice of bullshit marketing -
I am sure there would of been manager , admin , website admin that would of seen this and approved it.

I wish the accc or fair trading would crack down on this shit

With The amount of new sign up member - this would still be profitable even with $20 gift voucher.

Same as there $0.01 kit-Kat + $9.90 postage they were showing on today-tonight

I am sure there would be less scam marketing if regulatory associations would fine them.

    • -1

A lot of down vote ???
All I am trying to do is help the Community and show that we should stand up to the brain washing marketing.

      • +3

I don't understand why people think pricing errors as marketing gimmicks. Did Kogan advertise the product anywhere at that price? The OP accidentally found this amongst thousands of products and posted it here and that's how everyone came to know about it and placed orders. If Kogan wants people to signup, the simplest way is to put a banner on their homepage with a free $10 voucher for those who signup in next 24 hours and I am sure theere will get more people signing up for money they are losing by giving $25 free voucher here.

And I am surprised how people talk about fair trading, law and Kogan's responsibility to obey the price. Fair trading is not just for the customers but also for businesses. Do you think it is fair to pay $249 for a product worth $1299 just because one of Kogan's employees made a pricing mistake out of thousands of products they list everyday? Everyone who ordered the item knew they were taking a chance and Kogan might not honour the price.

I am defending Kogan because I bought few items from them in the past 3 years and I am very pleased by the way their standards of service improved over the last three years. They sell the same smartphone at $300 less than the DS or HN or JB who ripoff customers in the name of Australian warranty. I understand not everyone will be willing to buy a phone with 1 year Kogan warranty rather than 2 year Australian warranty. But at least they are a choice for people like me who prefer paying $300 less than having 1 extra year warranty which may or may not be useful. We need players like Kogan in the market to keep the prices competitive and if they honour these pricing errors they can't survive for long.

P.S. I am not associated with Kogan in any way except as a customer

    • +1

With The amount of new sign up member - this would still be profitable even with $20 gift voucher.

How exactly? Are you assuming that a large number of people who bought it are new users who have never heard of Kogan before, and will now definitely buy something from them just because of this?

    • as someone who works at a company with an online store, I'd be more than happy to tell you all about the admin errors that go on when making price changes and modifications to the website etc.

Manager, admin, website admin, whatever you want to call them are all human - they all make mistakes. Anyway, I doubt someone too high up would have this role, they probably approved the price change and then asked some clerk to change it. Simply human error.
