Need Help. How to Unlock My MacBook?

i actually don't know how to explain.But I will try to make it simple. My friend has a mac book and he is saying he can't access and all he see's is Locked Key on his screen. Need Help.. guys

    does he know the password? just force a shut down, reboot, and when it prompts for a password enter it.

    I just checked with him. He bought from an unknown guy for real cheap.
