$20 at MSY! so no shipping if you're close to a store. I got one last year when they were $24 and highly recommend it if you need/want the speed

    16gb

    Meh.

  • Is that cheap for only 16gb? I normally buy memory cards instead, and you can get a class 10 16gb for under $10

These are awesome sticks - I can write a 15GB SCCM deployment image to them in ~16 mins compared to 25-45mins for other USB sticks we have.

    • Seems really slow for usb3: that works out at only a bit above 15 mb/sec

is that good for large image writing?

      • I will time it with a few large files. The process above writes over 14,000 small files so large overhead.

        • Thanks: fair call on that many files

Just copied a 14.8 GB file onto the USB stick - took 4m 26secs - average speed looked to be 57MB/sec.

finally replacing those USB 1.0 sticks?

      • Nope, that's compared to writing the contents of the same ISO image file to 16 and 32gb USB 2.0 sticks of SanDisk and Strontium brands. And I think also TDK.

There are 14,000 small files in the image which is why it takes a lot longer than copying a few large files - all those file allocation table updates - but still useful as a relative speed comparison.

  • yup, i got one too. its super fast!

I had one until someone pinched it. That's how good they are.

I looked into the write speed claim of upto 190MB/s

    Write speeds:
    64GB: up to 190MB/s
    32GB: up to 100MB/s
    16GB: up to 50MB/s

I just bought the 64gb version of this based on its reviews and speeds. So will provide more feedback once i get it :)

  • As I said in a thread on Monday:

"If anyone is looking for better deal without going online, even my local Woolworths (WA) have 16gig USB 3.0 for $18, I bought one the other day it works great despite being a no-name brand."

Some usb 3.0 sticks that are noticeably slower than other usb 2.0 sticks so interface alone is not enough to prove performance.

If you can find a small number of files (say 1-20) that fill the usb stick to 95-100% it would be useful if you could time how long it takes to copy onto the stick after a fresh FAT32 format.
I can do the same today at work and share the results.
It's very unlikely a no name brand will write 15gb at close to the same speed/time. In fact if it gets half the speed (double the time) I'd be impressed.

  • this is the only samdisk usb is ok to use. The speed is good even over 2 years (I am not using it too heavily though)
