  • I'm confused how do you get the barcode/coupon?

    • +1

maybe read the comments? Pretty sure cooni is doing us a favor posting this ad

      • Not even a HINT at the irony of the name stinger? … awwww you're too kind ;P

  • Will the scan code of $1 Off Cadbury Voucher email work if I scan it (via mobile) at their check out myself?

    • +2

But some people will make a fuss about how a physical voucher needs to be presented. I find this particularly a problem with the elderly group of checkout people

  • Back in the game this morning with the original coupon scanning on my phone. No questions asked.

  • Anyone game to admit how many bars they have personally collected?

    • +3

      3 😂
      EDIT: Nice try Mr Cadbury

    • 11 in the first round
4 so far this week ;)

      • +1

Nice to hear that Perth is getting a look in for this one td… hit it with full force!

        • +2

          Team perth assemble! :D

        • +1

@tdw: coles must be hit very hard then from all the perth cadbury fans claiming free bars.

        • +1

Ok… Which one of you enthusiastic Cadbury fans took all the time out in Subiaco? None left on the shelf!

Jokes aside, I've been accused of photocopying the vouchers today. The overseas staff member refused to honour the vouchers.

        • @t25: wasn't me, i swear. haven't been back there since first round :p

goddamn…having to resort to profiling checkout ops for best chance at voucher acceptance :\

        • +1

@tdw: that's been my method to enabling me to claim so many. Usually go when it's quiet, younger staff member and who speaks good English. (If you know what I mean) ;)

        • @t25: yeah get what you mean winkwinknudgenudge it's unfortunate but if they want to be difficult…

        • +1

@tdw: its as if they have to pay the bars from their own pocket just for me. eitherway, i think ive done quite well this round with my bars.

        • @t25: it just occurred to me…could you get a raincheck for the out of stock timeout bars?

        • +1

@tdw: sure you could. You could probably tell them to write 30-60g Cadbury bars as well.

How many you could later claim with both the rain check and voucher is a different story. Because the rain check needs to be processed manually

        • @t25: of late, a lot of Coles staff have been saying that you must use up the whole quantity stated on the raincheck. in the past i've managed to use half the quantity, and for the remainder they either cross out the original and enter a new quantity or write me another raincheck.

        • +1

@tdw: yeah! I was accused of stockpiling rain checks and buying them at my convenience.

Also, it doesn't help that rain checks only last 4 weeks. Unlike the previous 1 year.

Sometimes I feel that these rain checks and vouchers are worth more hassle, the looks you get trying to get them, then the major hassle of redeeming them, worse if you have big quantities, having to explain that 50 bars is not commercial quantity, the snide remarks some of the new staff throw out, etc.

        • +1

          @t25:
          Re:

"Jokes aside, I've been accused of photocopying the vouchers today."

I suspect that perhaps the checkout chick/bloke was under the misapprehension that you were supposed to be using a voucher cut out of a newspaper or magazine. Otherwise, why would they accuse you of photocopying? Unless you were trying to use a couple (or three) vouchers at the same time, all with identical blemishes…

Anyways, in future just tell them that the official instructions for using the voucher are that it be printed out at home; hence, it looks like a photocopy (or a home print-out; which it is, 'by design'). Show them the actual website/information pertaining to the voucher on your phone, if need be.

        • @GnarlyKnuckles: they didnt want to know about it. told me to go to the customer service desk, where they simply repeated the "photocopy".

i wasnt going to make a scene over some chocolate bars. its not worth it, so rather i just left the bars, and walked away with my voucher.

as mentioned before, there are always some staff member who will play, and others who wont, its a matter of finding those that will, and avoiding those that wont.

        • @t25:

I was accused of stockpiling rain checks and buying them at my convenience.

yeesh…what are we bargain hunters NOT accused of?
the whole point of rainchecks is to compensate the customer for the inconvenience of the item not being in stock, so said customer can buy that product **when it suits them*

i suppose you do the monthly Coles surveys? i'd make a point to retain the receipt of any store that hassles you when you claim the bar and give feedback on that. ;)

        • @tdw: actually no. I often forget the Coles survey.

        • @t25: aw man…that's an easy 500 points every month ;)

        • +1

@tdw: ill remember from now on. maybe on my next cadbury bar trips i will actually print out a receipt :D

  • +1

New worker at the counter for this mornings free bar. She scans the bar, I scan the card on my phone.

She then asks paying cash or card, so I say neither. She looks at me, then at the screen as was like oh, ok see ya.

    • +1

Some staff are more automated in their routine than the self checkout machines ;-)

    As spotted by spaceback..

      • +1

so whats the preferred choice of bars?

mine is time out, twirl, and dairy milk.

        • +1

timeout, picnic, turkish delight, cherry ripe….oh who am i kidding. anything really :D

        • +1

@tdw: seems like these come on special every fortnight, we should be able to get this week + one week before the voucher is expired.

        • @t25: haha i just did that same calculation. that last run is going to be epic ;)

        • @tdw: i suspect by the last week, many of the coles are going to be very savvy about it. hell, can you imagine the stores having their morning team meeting and alerting all their staff with the vouchers :P

        • @t25: i'm hoping so. during 2nd week the promo was running it was noticeably easier to use the voucher. all except for Morley, which the middle-aged woman at self checkouts read the whole coupon out loud, then claimed that only the two items pictured in the voucher were eligible for the $1 off.

so she grabbed the chocolate, my voucher and marched to the service desk. store manager was called over (Dave), she read out the whole coupon again and that her interpretation of the voucher was for the 2 items only. Dave looked at the coupon, looked at the receipt and pretty much ok'd it. but the woman was still unhappy and started yapping about how she thought i already paid for it.

by now i was thinking wtf. she had lost face and was now trying to make up something as a reason why she called the manager over. she never asked me at the checkouts whether i'd paid for the item or not. more blabbering from her trying to cover her humiliation. before i could finally take ownership of my chocolate bar, i asked her whether she'd like to check my ID as per voucher instructions. oddly, she didn't. amazing…she's missed her calling as a politician.

        • +3

@tdw: oh dear. not morley again. it would seem that the people at morley need to revisit customer service and how not to piss them off. same deal at flinders too. scarborough was another one that would give me grief over those vouchers.

maybe we should compile a list of "difficult" stores and make it easier for our fellow ozbargainers to claim.

        • @t25: flinders square was ok for me. same for scarborough the first round.

sounds like a good idea. also name which staff member you interacted with, if possible ;)

        • @tdw: just curious how many do you claim at any one time? I have a feeling any more than 3 tends to raise eyebrows

        • +1

@t25: i only claim 1 bar at a time. i predict too much hassle for myself if i tried more than one. hence why i go to so many different stores :p

        • @tdw: impressive. maybe we should try and see how many we can claim at any one time :D

        • +3

@t25: the most i've ever done in one day are 7 stores. would've been 8 had i not gotten lost :\

        • +1

@tdw: time to look out for a new GPS with the money you saved buying cadbury bars? :P

        • +1

@t25: noooooo that would eat into my profit margin lol. it was dark and i had a James May moment.

        • @tdw: you must drive heaps to be able to do 7/8 stores in a day.

        • @t25: not necessarily. i pick an area where there's a decent cluster of coles stores. plus the car needs a good run from time to time ;)

        • +3

@t25: funny you mentioned flinders square earlier. had to wait for a good few minutes at the self checkout where two dimwits couldn't figure out how to use the machines. so the checkout assistant was running back and forth between the two, meanwhile i was standing there staring at her back trying to get her attention. sure enough, another middle aged woman giving me hassle. this time she expected to see the full terms and conditions. l-o-effing-l. told her that was several pages long..did she expect me to print all of it? she called over a colleague (another middle aged woman) and they discussed it for a while before my voucher was finally approved.

tldr: avoid the middle-aged women. (and before anyone reading this tries to scream sexism, i'm female myself)

        • @tdw: her name wouldn't be penny or something similar by any chance? She always ask for the full terms and conditions and acts as if she knows best.

        • +1

@t25: didn't see her name badge but it sounds like her alright lol. next time i'm in the office i'll print out the full t&c's from the cadbury site and take it along with me on my runs. that ought to shut 'em up :p

        • +2

@tdw: Just go in there with 10 people from the office, all with vouchers :P
And hand some out to the 'locals' outside the store asking for change ;)

        • +1

@Spackbace: thanks Spackbace, i now have an idea for our next team-building event :D

        • +1

@tdw: Start a charity drive… set up a gazebo out the front of Coles carpark, handing out these vouchers (complete with a copy of the Ts & Cs of course). Free chocolates for all!

As a side note, I do sometimes wonder how things would be if those on the lower-income stream even knew about some of these deals, especially like the cheap Sports Direct clothing. Charities etc could really do more good if they were part of this site and knew about this! Instead all that happens is middle-men buy the Sports Direct clothing, and sell it for 200% to people that still see it as cheap, but don't realise how cheap it could be.

          Just random thoughts lol

        • @Spackbace: then you might be accused of photocopying vouchers in the office.

sometimes its easier to just go to a store where the staff are more accepting of our vouchers, lately, i have been doing my big shops NOT at flinders, but at subiaco. because unlike flinders, subiaco accepts my vouchers and even ask me if i have more :D

        • +1

@tdw: actually, i just read the voucher T&Cs, and found an interesting "omission" if i dare call it that. usually, vouchers would say, valid one per person per transaction or valid one per person per day or something along those line.

"Voucher valid for a single purchase from the CADBURY confectionery range via Coles or Coles Express outlets. Includes CADBURY Blocks, Sharepacks, Bitesize, Bars, Gifting or Pre-teens (Caramello, Freddo, Chomp, Curly Wurly). Excludes Cadbury Easter range. No refunds if product is less than $1. One voucher per QUALIFYING PURCHASE. Offer Valid from 4/2/2015 to 31/3/2015"

now if we read the conditions carefully, I reckon, you could walk in with 20 slips and argue that buying these individually would be a qualifying purchase, and that there is nothing from stopping you.

        • @t25: yeah, i noticed that "loophole" too. been waiting for a checkout op to lecture me that i could only claim the $1 off once so i could point that out to them :p

i agree, i could use all my vouchers and buy out that store's timeout stash in one hit but seeing as how it's already such a p.i.t.a. getting one miserable chocolate bar!…i'd rather just drive around

@Spackbace: damn…your random thoughts are gold, jerry, gold! :D

        • +2

@tdw: if you do buy all the timeout please let me know which store you hit so that I don't waste my time :P

        • +1

          @tdw:
          @t25:

Can you 2 please stop having discussions, your usernames are too similar, it's confusing :P

        • +2

@Spackbace: be lucky I haven't adopted a sock puppet as my display picture.

        • @t25: will do lol.
          @Spackbace: yeah nah :p

  • can anyone pm me the voucher

  • abusing this just means we probably won't see such a deal again.

    • +2

Yep, Cadbury/Coles are gonna lose sleep over those many $1s they're losing out on…

      • +1

If anything we are doing them a favour by increasing the public awareness. Hell it was oz bargain that told me about this promo.

    • +1

Anyone remember this free lollies/cookies/ice cream deal from a few years ago? That didn't have a unique/one time use barcode either…

      • +1

Wouldn't this be the same as the wine company with the free dominos pizza?

  • +2

Coles Express currently have $1 marvellous creations 45-50g bars!! Easy to hit a few of them up while on the road!

    • +1

i saw that at my local coles express. would go well with the free water/coffee.

free for ING Direct (which I suspect is most of us here!!) customers. imagine the look on the attendents face when you go claim free water/chocolate.

now time to find a way to get heavily discounted fuel whistling

      • now time to find a way to get heavily discounted fuel whistling

        drive a hybrid? :p

        • im not quite sold on a hybrid. any recommendations?

        • @t25: ha. neither am i actually, despite all the claimed benefits :D

        • @tdw: there has been quite a few ct200 being used as company runabouts… Might be a half decent car if you don't mind the glorified Toyota badge

  • OK, which one of you enthusiastic cadbury fruit & nut fans took all the stock at mosman park?

they were out of fruit and nut, and dairy milk! none the less, i ended up with my safe bet, the time out.

  • +1

From Wed Coles have Cadbury Large Block Chocolate 270g-350g $2.99 save $3.00. That means that they will be $1.99 with coupon, don't know if it's a good deal? (Probably not compared to free bars right?)

  • +1

Last day for this week special, time to start preparing for the epic run.

    • +2

37 all up this round :)

      • +2

Impressive! I learnt that when you have a good staff member you can just go through self check out again, and they will stand there with you approving all the coupons you have printed.

        • So which stores allow it? I'll print out 100 pieces and go for the whole shelf of my favourites. ;)

        • +1

@t25: haha, i dont know about 100 of them (I havent reached that ozB level!!!) but I have done a few with one self-checkout assistant then realised WOW that worked, and walked through the self-checkout again in a few mins, and the staff asked "how many vouchers do you have?"

        • +1

haha that's even more impressive :p

        • @imissbeans: who said anything about knowing 100 of them.

just print 100 vouchers, get a trolley and load up on your favourites, then go find someone who will let you use them all (or at least as many as possible!) =D

or, if the staff ask me "how many vouchers do you have?" i will simply respond with a figure like 120. i doubt they would even count the number of vouchers/choc bars.

        • +1

@t25: yeah that's next level! I'm working on getting to Sensai level, maybe I've been given a few breaks here and there because I'm convincing!

  • maybe all the perth ozbargainers should go to morley/flinders square/scarborough (ie. difficult stores) and claim the bars at the same time. that would really mess with them :P
