Help Finding Cheapest Eletricity Provider for Brisbane?

Hi guys,

Apologies if this info has been mentioned before but I did a search of the forum and couldn't find an existing thread for this.

Can someone tell me who is the cheapest electricity provider in Brisbane currently please? From my own research I think Click Energy is cheaper than Origin, unless I can get a massive discount off Origin. Am I right?

Thanks.

  • i suggest you research click energy before signing up. other users have reported lots of billing problems (search for click energy). not worth the hassle i think.

you are best off to ring up each company and see what deal you can get for your situation. they might be able to offer something cheaper than advertised online.

Yes Click Energy was the cheapest for me, completely online retailer to keep costs down.

  • All the comparison websites showed Click Energy was cheapest for me and they showed equally cheap supply (~60c/day) + tariff 11/33 (~24c / ~17c) ex-GST rates, explaining how they were so cheap. Not only was this from switchwise but also the QCA comparator.

Then when I went to OneBigSwitch to sign up for Click Energy, I looked at their rates and they were 100% identical to my Origin QLD bill for supply (83.414c/day), tariff 11 (25.378c/kwh) and tariff 33 (18.454c/kwh).
Prices are ex-GST from 'Rates and more Information' on OneBigSwitch and also on my Origin bill.

Since they both have 9% discount, the prices would be identical. Except for: Click Energy requires you pay monthly with estimates and quarterly with real readings. Click Energy gives you $25 via OBS if you stay for 12 months.

This might just be a QLD thing, but do all companies charge the exact same rates and only differ in discounts/promotions? How is it Click Energy has identical pricing down to the hundredths of cents? Why do the comparison websites have the wrong rates?

    • I skimmed through an article mentioning the retail price in QLD is set by the government to avoid rural people paying a lot more for their electricity. Not sure how accurate that is, but I have found the same thing as you, every provider I looked at in QLD has the same tariff.

  • I have been reading some older posts on OzB after I posted this thread. Apparently people have been negotiating bigger on-time discounts with their electricity providers, eg. Origin, Lumo energy. I might give that a go. My father-in-law is getting 16% off his Origin electricity bill for 12 months started from sometime late last year.

    • So far the biggest discount I've seen without negotiating is 12% for RACQ customers:

      • I rang around looking for deals. The cheapest one I could find was 10% ontime discount off usage and supply charges. Then I got a contact through a friend, he was able to give me 16% on time discount off usage. PM me if you want the contact.

Currently trying to work out which provider is cheaper in Excel. 16% off usage or 10% off both usage and supply charges.

        • I'd like the 16% off usage!
I'm on the 9% through Origin.

    • Is he in QLD?

      • Yes, lives 2 suburbs away from me. :)

  • I managed to get 14% pay on time discount plus 1% direct debit discount (which I do not use because I do not trust them with DD) from Origin only after I switched to Dodo. I rung Origin many times prior to switching and they were rude and not interested. After I switched i got a phone call from Origin just before the end of the cooling period with the 14% + 1% offer. Dodo was also offering me $50 cash, so I asked that Origin match that plus another $25 for the inconvenience. I did not like Origin because of all the hassle they caused for the switching, but in the end I went to the cheapest price/best deal I could get.
