How to Prevent Scam Emails Offering Employment

So fed up with receiving Emails from supposed companies offering guaranteed positions of employment in general office & computer work for wonderful wages.

  1. I have no desire to work again
  2. I have never applied to any of them for employment
  3. Not backward in thinking forwards that they are all scam

But how to stop them ? I don't reply- just delete.

Some of you clever people out there may have a solution ?
And whilst we're on this subject - how to prevent unwanted phone calls - i.e. " Your computer needs attention'
& yesterday a new one " I am calling from The Australian Federal Government to say you have a cheque ready to be sent for $7000 - just ring this number ( a Sydney number ) & state your reference code " She sounded extremely foreign to me with a lot of background activity such as from a large call centre. I have not taken up this generous offer after going onto Google to discover lots of other people who have received the same call only to find that when they return the call are asked for money to process their cheque !
Normally we blow a whistle down the phone when these calls come through - they soon disconnect. However we would like advise on how to stop them coming. We are already registered with the Do Not Call through Telstra but apparently they are unable to block these calls as they come from overseas & can even use an Australian number so if you have caller I.D. you think it is coming from here -instead of an international call which shows as overseas.
Frustrating - so any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Change your home number and get a silent number! :) Works for me.

I never give my number out to anyone. Occasionally (once or twice a year) I get the charity call (They told me they randomly generate the number) which I just politely decline.

It does cost a fee to change to a silent number, plus a monthly subscriber fee that Telstra charges me. It is however well-worth it imho.

  • Are you using an ISP provided mailbox? Gmail is very good at filtering out spam, the other players like Yahoo and Hotmail less so but still more effective than ISPs as they have more resources to detect spam senders. Plus not using an ISP's mailbox makes it simpler to switch ISPs.

As for phone scams I haven't had a landline for years. Blessed silence.

I would be "hold on, someone's at the door" opens door "oh hello officer, how can I be of assistance? Maybe you can take this call for me?"

regarding the phone calls. as soon as I hear a delay in them speaking I just hang up.

otherwise get a tape recorder and record yourself for 30 minutes saying things like "is that so?" , "tell me more", "sorry, can you repeat that", "tell me some history about your company", " can you start from the start please" , "hold on, some is at the door" -and then go away for 20 minutes.

Goodness Gracious me, I'll be velly surprised, if anyone really knew how to stop spammers and scammers via email or phone. If they did, they wouldn't ever need to work again, they'd end up richer than Gill Bates.

  • i receive virtually zippo telemarketing calls on my mobile phone.
