Bargain Running Shoes

Hey,

Each 1-2 years I have to fork out $100 for a pair of runners. (This is when they are marked down by at least 50%)

I run 30-50km per week.

I did try cheap nobrand runners and they started falling apart within about 4 months.

Even cheaper Brandnames (RRP less than 100) wear more faster than (RRP 150+) mark shoes.

How much do you pay for runners

    It's over $100 for barefoot: http://barefootinc.com.au/vibram/

  • $30-$50 marked down clearance runners from New Balance Outlet during Boxing Day sales (I go to the one in Alexandria Sydney). That'll last me a year until the next Boxing day sale…

  • Who pays $10 for socks?

My socks are $1 & runners $10. Both are crap, but I don't care.

My $1 for 5x pairs of Slazenger socks are actually quite good quality.

      • Adds to my point about $10 socks.

        • My calc was $2 per pair and you need 5

    • Older runners or people with dodgy or injured calves that wear compression socks or compression sleeves. I have a set of compression sleeves I wear when my calves play up, they cost me more than $60 but the alternative is limping around for a week and a half post-run.

  • Have a $7.50 pair bought at Woolworths on clearance. Also have a $12 pair bought at Trade Secret on clearance. Barely used them so far but I finally threw out a 5 year old pair of Slazengers which just fell apart.

  • I almost messed up my ankle a few years back on the treadmill wearing inexpensive, rigid runners so it's not something I cheap out on anymore.

  • Lomo

  • Take a look at Fila running shoes, decent quality and when they go on sale you may as well buy a couple as they are so cheap. Though they do take a little while to wear in as my Fila Sprints took about 3 weeks to wear in and I run 25-35km a week.

  • think maybe you should be less focused on price & more on fit. Badly fitting shoes can actually cause problems later, which can cost a fortune to fix.

  • bought 2 pairs recently. One at Amart all sports who appear at 1st glance to have an enormous range, but in reality didn't have my size in many models. Running shoes seem to change colours, styles, models 4 or more times a year & so there must be millions of close outs floating around.

Get the impression that Amart must buy or get on consignment lots of these. Ending up buying a pair of Asics for $69, supposedly originally $149. They did have a pair with the same name, different colour for $149, so maybe ones I bought were last months or last years, who cares.

Then had to buy a pair for daughter. She has foot problems & podiatrist suggested buying a particular asics model or brooks.

Went to have a look & they were $200 to $250. The ones she liked the most were $200, but she grows out of things so fast, was reluctant to spend that much.

So got online & found similar at catch of the day for $99 + $8 delivery. Different colour.

Unfortunately they took 12 days to turn up (not sure why they took so long as usually things from Sydney or Melbourne take 2 or 3 days by Aus post tops).

Anyway, took a chance on the size, which was slightly different, but now they've been broken in & stretched a bit from wearing, all good.
