If you want to get a Qantas Ferquenty Flyer Membership (to start racking up those points), to avoid paying $82.50, you can try to apply for the Earth Credit Card.
Details:
A tiny 0.99%pa for 6 months on balance transfers*
Plus pay a low annual fee of just $49
0.5 point for every $1 you spend on your Earth MasterCard® card
Terms and conditions apply.
Hints: If you're just starting out you can try the following: Join Earth Credit Card for less than 11 months, get the free QFF Membership (value $82.50), pay the $49 annual fee, close the account, join another credit card provider that does QFF with a free first year annual fee and do it again (luckily I'm with Citibank Gold Lifetime no annual fee ever [sorry promotion finished]). Another thing is to join e-trade (it looks like the offer has ceased on the 31st of Oct) - this is usually on-going, give them a call first - usually 2000 points for joining - conditions and terms apply. Also sign up for macquarie bank term deposits for more points [at the expense of a few percentage points], but QFF are not taxable [well not yet!] :) Also fly with Qantas (but with the deals these days who really does…..)
Please note, going into the loyalty programs ARE NOT WORTH IT if you:
- are not responsible with money
- increase your spending habbits because of a credit card - remember it's NOT YOUR MONEY YOU'RE SPENDING
- are not paying it off in full each month and are paying the crazy high interest rate on the outstanding balance
- if the associated fees exceed the value of the points for flights [rather take the cheap flight specials that come around]
- it's not really beneficial for australian flights
- the amount of the expenses are small
Good post.
