Where/What PC to buy with price protection?

Looking for a good upgrade to my current VAIO laptop. Still Functions but it predates SSD and modern chipsets.

Not really sure If I am looking for an AIO or laptop (i know different beast, etc), but that isn't really the main point of this post.

As I have had some success using price protection on my phone (bought S4 from TGG when new and just got back $300 for pp claim from the boxing day sales) I am now wondering if one store or another/ brand be best for buying my next PC from. To get the most for the least net cost over 2 years.

What knowledge wealth on this topic has the Oz Bargainers community gained?

  • You're kind of putting the cart before the horse here. Your emphasis is on price protection, but you haven't worked out what you actually wanted. Do you want a nice portable ultrabook, a mainstream laptop, or a custom built desktop PC? There are so many options here. What is your budget? What are you going to use it for?

If you, for example, wanted to get a Macbook, then there are many avenues to get one from as it is widely sold by a number of big box retailers ranging from HN, DSE, JB and TGG.

But if you are after a specific brand or model of computer which is only available at exclusive dealers, or is only purchasable from one vendor (say a Dell Optiplex AIO) then you're not going to get much of a choice, you'll have to accept whatever price you're given at that particular time.

    • budget: $1000 but don't care if this is after a price protection claim 1-2 years from now

Only thing I'm firm on is that it is windows.

Im just trying to figure out which retailer likely over stocks and then has a great clearance down the road that is amenable to price protection claiming.

  • +1

You bought a phone that was $300 more expensive pre sale?…

    • S4 new for ~$650 near 2 years ago, this past boxing day it came down to $350…
