Looking for a cheap ac unit for my bedroom and study, i don't care if new or used.
Just needs to be decent on the cheap. Put evaporative in my house about 3 years ago, spent $4500. its been the most expensive piece of junk I've ever bought

check harvey norman they had a fairly good sale on fixed/portable AC units as part of the new year sale.
If you decide to get an inverter, make sure to get quotes for installation, as they can cost as much as the unit themselves. My Samsung $899 unit cost $700 to install. After the heat last night though, I don't even mind.
Is the installation of an inverter or a regular unit any different? The inverter technology is within the system itself, where the outdoor unit doesn't just operate at 0% (OFF) or 100% (ON). In an inverter system, the outdoor unit scales gradually either % up and down as and when required.
This is the model I have: http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/samsung-25kw-reverse-cycl…
I think mimbula meant to say split system instead of inverter
Try looking in some Asian newspapers. I am not able to read it, but I can certainly tell what the ad is saying if it has a picture of an air con with the price next to it. I have seen some ads in some of them that has some pretty good pricing. :)
Edit: if you really need to know what the ad is saying, I use the Google Translate app on my phone to take a picture and translate it.
