Forgive my ignorance, but is this a good deal?

Toshiba Satellite L50-B05C 15.6" Notebook - Dick Smith for $699

Used for basic computing at home for the missus… Word, Internet browsing (primarily ozbargain, ebay, reddit, facebook - the essentials).

(Of course that thing is outdated, these days you can simply highlight text and right click to select "Search Google for _____")

Ah, I see what you're saying. it's bad forum etiquette of the OP to not provide it. Makes sense.
(Though it really only takes 5 seconds to look up.)
          I didn't and haven't provided the information because I think it's irrelevant.

        • @Sage: Yep, sorry guys, haven't posted often to the forum - lesson learnt!

yeah you only need the bare minimum for text based applications.
get the cheapest thing you can find.

  • Aldi have laptop for $499

  • The new HP Stream 14 is pretty nice.

  • I saw an i7 based one a few days ago with Tb hard disk from either Lenovo or Toshiba for $699 so no this is not cheap.

If $699 is your budget ignore me, but I strongly advise getting a notebook with an SSD if you can afford it. The performance and "feel" of the operation of the unit compared to HDD is chalk and cheese.

  • At about half the price a ChromeBook fits your needs.

  • thanks guys, all good… clearly not a good deal. Appreciate it! :)
