Wireless Printer: Which one?

Hi all, I've been using the same printer for years now and it's time to upgrade!

I really just want a basic wireless printer as I'll just be printing out text and I won't be using it much at all. I've never bought a wireless printer before so I don't know what to look for.

Thanks!

  • Colour or B/W

  • I thought I wanted a wireless printer but the extra cost and setup wasnt worth it for me. I ended up just getting a lazer B/W and plugging into my wireless router. I can still print remotely from my tablet/notebook etc, much lower running cost over an inkjet and If I need to do photo's I go to Kmart or Online.

or indeed loads of options under $100 for a mono, or under $200 for colour.

Laser because inkjets tend to dry out if you are not using them much, and you get a nicer print for text etc.

You might find you could hang a normal printer off the USB port of your ADSL Modem/Router if you are looking to get a wireless connection to a wired printer.

    • I would recommend Brother - HL-L2360DW Wireless Laser Printer with Starter toner cartridge,1 USB port for simple connectivity.

& advice not to choose SAMSUNG SL-M2020W Mono Laser Printer as replacement of its toner cartridges cost too high

  • I would recommend a Canon. Its photo printing is really good along with individual ink tanks.

  • Brother for Laser, Epson for inkjet.

  • we bought a Brother 315w inkjet 2 years ago, same time I ordered 6 of every colour and double black from 123inkjets and never paid a thing since.
Printer works great and was around $50 at Harvey Norman, ink was like $60 for the whole lot. Bargain.
It also a multi function device so we occasionally use it to photo copy and scan.

  • I think Brother will be the good choice as brother got lower level of protection for generic ink or toner.

The latest printer I have at the moment comes with chip finally but I got some refillable ink with permanent chip and it wouldn't be a problem.

The brother laser is also fantastic.

  • I just bought my parents an epson printer online from HN. They have cash back on a load of printers, so I looked at the whirlpool cost per page, and the outright price. It turns out that the best value printer was a WF-7510 or something, which cost $166 after cash back. Great deal and it prints A3 too. Then when it was delivered, I realised the problem. It is enormous, like photo copier size enormous. It is at least twice the size of a normal printer. So while it was very cheap and seems to be high quality, it is the biggest home printer I have ever seen. Placement is the issue.

  • Yeah Epson have their $8 genuine ink range, and are one of the few that doesn't demand cleaning every few days. They're just 'good'.

  • I saw a Canon model at Coles onsale for $49 I believe. Is it worth it to buy one of these ultra-low printers?
