most people already have one from the old 3DS or if not just grab one on ebay for cheap it's not a big deal. …shame they don't package it with it. but not a deal breaker
Technically it is a deal breaker in Australia as its illegal for them to do so.
It's not technically as Nintendo advertises the cable as an accessory, so don't have to sell it with the console under Australian laws.
Just because they call it an accessory doesn't mean its not required. Without a charger the console cannot be used. Under ACCC rules, you cannot sell something that is not 100% usable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it comes with a USB cable that you can plug into any phone charger? Who seriously doesn't have a heap of them at home?
It does not. Where did you see that?
You can get USB charging cables, but the end that plugs into the DS itself is proprietary (not a mini or micro USB lead), so if its your first purchase or first since around the DSi you may be out of luck. I don't believe these cables come with it.

I'm getting the monster hunter one, really bummed that the game doesn't come with it. Pretty sure US gets their consoles with the games, and last year I got the zelda 3dsxl with ALBW. Why nintendoooooo grumblegrumble
