For the 970 with Shipping is with paypal conversion of $324 Usd
    409.46 AUD (1 AUD = 0.791304 USD)

Bad exchange rate and Paypal scammers exchange rate for a used 970 card to save $100 :(

    • I see refurbished like new personally. Nothing wrong with them.
But yes the Paypal rate does suck.

      • I would have got this if the exchange was not so bad and I have bought some new stuff doa
so refurbs are a good option in a lot of cases

personally, i would stay away from the AMD ones when it comes to 2nd hand ones…

        • +3

Refurb /= used for mining for a year.

Prices aren't low enough for me to bother with the stress though.

        • +1

          @Merlict:
          agree with both statements.

that's why i'd advise against getting 2nd hand AMDs.

the prices aren't worth the stress.

PayPal conversion sucks. Always, always use 28 Degrees card and pay in seller default currency.

      • Any difference between 28 Degrees and Prepaid Mastercard? I always keep various currencies on my card, easy to convert currencies, almost no fees. Is 28 Degrees a prepaid card?

        • No, it's a credit card, but with zero forex conversions fees.
Saves around 2.5% - 3.5% off normal credit card fees.

        • @systmworks: I might have to check it out some time, see how it compares to AMEX prepaid I use for Amazon & Mastercard Prepaid I use for everything else (including Amazon sometimes).

        • @Ebany:
Every time you convert AUD to USD (or other) you will very likely be charged a conversion fee - eg every time you are buying a USD prepaid AMEX using AUD (assuming you are here in Oz).

My Coles Mastercard charges 2.5% which is the lowest rate compared to 2 other of my credit cards (BOQ and St George) - so I use my 28 Degrees card for all overseas purchases as its $0.

          That is a saving of $5 per AU$200 spend. $25 per AU$1,000.

My PalPal is configured to always show me prices in original currency, rather than PayPal conversion, and you just need to watch out for websites like Amazon.com where they will try and "make things easy for you" by converting to AUD but they make profit there too.

Oh, I should clarify above, AWAYS use PayPal when its offered - they have good buyer protection - dont give your credit card to random 3rd parties if you can help it. But you can have multiple credit cards set up in PayPal, and just use the right one for the particular PayPal purchase (eg 28D for overseas currency).

        • @systmworks: I avoid Paypal where ever possible, their buyer protection is good for Ebay but, as I discovered, crap for the rest of the internet.

Prepaid Mastercard works like a Debit card, can only (in theory) use the money so long as it exists in the account. It gives an option of 10 currencies which are recharged at the current exchange rate for up to a maximun of AU$100K (min of AU$100), can also exchange currencies within the account. e.g. If I require USD then I could convert any of the other currencies I have on the card at the going exchange rates. While all this is free they do charge a fixed AU$5 fee everytime I deposit money into the card, unless I do it at a registered location (e.g. Aust Post). They also charge a small fee for using ATM.
The real catch is one of my cards has a expiration date of 1 year from the last transaction :)

        • @Ebany: That sounds pretty good - especially if they are not charging a fee for the currency conversion. And yeah being a debit card the maximum exposure is limited to the money you put in there, rather than your available credit balance.

What bad experience did you have with PayPal ? I thought their buyer protection was the same for any purchase, not just through eBay (which are now 1 in the same company, although didnt used to be).

        • @systmworks: Purchasing a game from Trion, they charged for some "extra" material I didn't order and couldn't use. When I told Trion to fix it up they told me to get f*@%ed, but in a more polite manner, Trion felt that been in America meant they could get away with those type of disgusting practices. It's a long and detailed story but the most important thing was:
Paypal wanted to charge me to look into the matter, and then charge me more if it didn't resolve in my favour. In fact, even if it resolved in my favour I still would have had to pay more than what was taken in the first place.
As far as I'm aware, Buyer Protection is for Ebay only - I guess that's because Ebay owns Paypal and want people to shop there.

        • @systmworks: Here's a list of the fee's for my prepaid card, it's late so I've not gone through them but you may want to, could be interesting :)

Also, I can't guarantee my memory got all the details correct ……. it's hard getting old sigh

Take note of this given the warranty seems to be from gpushack and perhaps not covered by the manufacturer.

"If any GPU purchased from gpuShack experiences any problems within a two year period beginning from the date of purchase, gpuShack will replace it at no cost to you. We will provide a return shipping label* and send out a GPU of equal or greater value.

    • International customers must purchase their own return shipping."

A new 970 (maybe not MSI due to current stock) can be had for not much more brand new from Amazon. I'd rather spend the extra 20 bucks and buy there as they cover return shipping (based on my personal experience). For reference it cost about $100 AUD to return a PSU to the states.

    Good price though.

    Was excited about GTX 970.

Then I saw it was a refurb.

Then I saw it was from the US.

Then saw it's over a month wait to get it (including shipping time).

Then I saw it was USD.

Good deal if you are in the US, but it's not really a bargain here. In retrospect you are just paying $100 less a refurb and a long wait.

  • Ships February 15th…

Nice find OP ! But considering the eventual PayPal price, ain't worth the wait IMO.

  • The 970 looks good and wasnt a mining reject given its age..

  • Not a bargain at all. The RRP in the USA for the GTX 970 is $329 (A$400). So you are saving 9% or $30 by buying a refurb and having to wait a month. What kind of bargain is that?

Brand-new PNY for A$429.46 shipped, only $20 more than the refurb!

Cheapest local price is $435 from MSY (for Gainward).
