    • If you want to be pedantic, you'd actually write USD 566 when expressing a foreign currency. For an example, see here,

      http://www.anz.com.au/aus/RateFee/fxrates/fxpopup.asp

It lists an example of AUD 100,000 when expressing Australian Dollars. US dollars are listed as USD.

  • Lamp's cost $179 (currently), would need to be replaced every 5,000 hours… just giving info.

I have also struggle to find a 'cheap' 1080p project that would rival a panel.

    Happy to be proven wrong.

3 hours a day every day is approx 5 years of lamp usage.

      • And that is if you replace according to manufacturers advice. Most projector users get 50-100% extra hours from the lamps compared to spec (including myself and other friends).

    • depends on, among other things, the size of the image you want. I like 100", which looks alright using a cheap projector, but even if you could get a cheap panel in that size, it would look horrible because of the huge pixels. Projectors you get away with it because the light has to travel a couple of meters, and it blurs the edges of adjacent pixels enough to make it less noticeable. Only real downsides are its harder to install, uses more power, and you need quite a dark room. In terms of value I think projectors have passed panel tvs at this price point.

Can anyone confirm that this takes a 240V source?

  • Better than a benq w1070?

    • No, but ~$100 USD cheaper…

      • +1

Why not? What's the difference between this and the BenQ?

        • BenQ has more ports: VGA, component input, RCA inputs and audio out. Those are mainly analog ports so probably not an issue (especially in 1080p world). That's still better technically (but not a huge difference). Is it worth the extra $100?

        • +1

@netsurfer: if you have it roof mounted you not going to be accessing those ports often or ever

        • @asa79: But you can still connect more devices to it before you finished root mouting it. Only kidding.

I did mention $100 USD price diff and those "extra" inputs are all analog.

    • Although this has been graded to produce 3000 lumens and the BenQ W1070 2000, this review (http://www.projectorcentral.com/optoma-hd141x-projector-revi…) measured colored light output at only 1000 lumens, while the BenQ did 1554 on testing. You can read more about the BenQ at: http://www.projectorcentral.com/benq_w1070_3d_home_video_pro…

  • Anyone got any thoughts on this vs Benq W1080st, I know the whole thing with the w1080 is short throw, but I've just purchased it at $1000 from Kogan and not sure I can justify the difference?

  • Am I the only one that is seeing the item as listed for $599?

    • it seems to have gone back up..

  • price gone up now

  • Thought this was a misprint and was meant to be Optima… ahh Optima Computers…
