  • $50 for a bottle of wine you have no idea what it is???
Then they start banging on about how good a previous vintage was <rolls eyes>

    • Worse, the outlay is $299, as you need to buy in a case of 6. That's a lot of money to pay for what is essentially a guessing game (and I could find 6 x brilliant wines at $50 each outside of Vinomofo that will give you just as much wow factor - e.g. why not buy the Halliday 97 pointer 2012 St Hallett Blackwell at $30 a bottle?).

      • I have extensive experience with wines from Vinomofo. If you aren't happy with the wine, they will refund you in full and organise collection. There's no risk here. And YES I did actually try to return a case and they were happy to do it. Didn't actually end up returning because I just hadn't let the wine breathe enough and it tasted delicious the next day :)

The point I'm trying to get at is that spending a minimum of $299 outlay for an unknown wine isn't necessarily a bargain. Vino Mofo essentially only gets access to these 'secret' wines because the winery can't shift them through cellar door or distributors. And I still stand by the fact that you can buy an amazing, non 'secret' wine for a lot less than $50 per bottle (while not being restricted to the full 6 pack case buy Vino Mofo buying entails).

"but I am sure you can figure it out, from the hints above."
Just because you could not figure it out, doesn't mean I have no idea what it was <roll eyes>
Hint - add the caps together

      • or you could have followed previous posters & added all the info in the post….

        • I was just having some fun and thought any serious wine drinker would get the clues (No 1, Salt, ram)
          But next time I'll know.

    • Ahh so it's the 2010 vintage (Dan only has the 2008 $70) so it's pretty young.

  • the old vingtage in DM & 1st Choice are over $70.
2010 is a great vintage, so you'd assume it's better, but they didnt mention what points it gets worries me.

95 pts from Jeremy Oliver is mentioned, that's a pretty good recommendation.

      • thanks 4 reply, i saw 95pts.
but it mentioned JH gave previous vintage 97, then someone else gave 95, no consistency worries me
anyone knows what JH give this vintage? did get it from search

        • it's not a case of inconsistency, every critic scores to a different scale. IMO, James Halliday scores are creeping up too quickly (what's next - the 105 pointed wine?). The James Halliday score for this vintage has not been published, so is unknown as yet.

One of the top Barossa Shiraz wines. Strange that such a good wine from such a good vintage is being discounted through Vinomofo.

    • +1

Not really, their margins are quite low, they buy high volume so can get it direct from the producer at a competitive rate.

They also pay their suppliers within 60 days, which is very good when compared to the big boys who are known to not pay for 4-6 months after receiving stock.

    • There could be plenty of reasons.
      - Vinomofo opens up additional distribution channel
      - Winemaker may need cash quickly
      - Winemaker may have excess supply across the board and may need to reduce inventory

There are a whole host of reasons why the business may discount it's product. They could simply just want to make a sale.
