In before the "I haven't got my free cable yet" crowd

      Anyine else get theirs yet?

      • Yeh i got my free cable! :D

  • I did.

  • I got it in Oct

these kogan guys are animals what is the process if one cable breaks?
Do we have to pay fees to post back and wait months?

I've purchased a lightning cable from Kogan and it lasted all of 2 days. Got onto a chat session with them and they asked me to cut it in half and take a photo of it. I emailed them the pic and they gave me a credit for the cost of the cable. Great service, crappy products.

      • so they pretty gave you credit to buy more crap from them?

im tempted to get it since theyre throwing in free del but with all the bad review it is hard to say what is good and what isnt

just when you thought its safest to just buy the $25 one from apple for a peace of mind, apples one had about 1.5/5 star rating.

        • Good luck.

        • We've gone through heaps of cheap cables so I decided to get a genuine for the extra charging point (now all cables are genuine since you get one free with phones/ipad) and we haven't had one break since.
By buying a genuine one from a local store now anytime any of our cables break I'll box it up and take it back for a swap. In saying that we haven't had a cable break since at least September now, way better off just biting the bullet.

If they really are 'Made for iDevices' certified it would be an OK deal.

However, there is no brand name revealed. There is also no link to the certification certificate.

    • I bought a 1 metre single MFi lightning cable from Kogan last year for about $12. The quality seems fine and it does sync data.

  • Bought these yesterday with a $10 voucher, so $11 total.
The 3 pack of old 30 pins I got from them for my Iphone 4 are working fine, so hopefully these do too (Ipad Air)

Let us know how they 'go'.

The 3 pack of old 30 pins I got from them for my Iphone 4 are working fine, so hopefully these do too (Ipad Air)

There is a big difference. The Lightning cables need to be MFi certified.

      • Received yesterday, all 3 charging fine with iPad Air. No Error Messages.

        • Received yesterday, all 3 charging fine with iPad Air. No Error Messages.

Good to know, but not the point.

I have purchased better made cables, with flat (noodle) cable, that give no error messages - for $3 delivered.

Kogan should not be falsely claiming these to be MFI certified

As they are not truely MFI certified, there is a good chance that they will stop functioning correctly in the future. When there is an iOS update and/or a hardware change (new model).

        • @A3Australia:
You asked to let you know how they go. So it is completely the point.

    MFi certified

    lol

I got these a while ago, they work, they come up on my iPhone 5 with the error message about it not being a certified cable or accessory but they still work. No problems so far.

So, they are not MFi certified cables. This is Kogan Pty Ltd selling these cables - an Australian company. They are taking quite a risk by falsely claiming them to be certified MFi cables.

      • +2

Kogan is a risk taker. He makes big bucks from scams such as his false rubik's cube scandal. I reported Bogan to Rubik for that violation. It is part of his business model and is very profitable to pull these kinds of stunts.

I bought a 3 pack in July last year from Kogan and they do not work. Will not charge or sync my Ipads. Comes up with a warning about not being certified. Never bothered to contact Koogan as they were $14.
I would not trust them again with my money.

      • +2

So you throw $14 away that's no ozbargain. Claim on warranty if they not working

  • Are your iPhone/iPad/iPod charge cables always breaking? Well look what I found.

    TOTALLY lame OP.

These kinds of cables are available almost anywhere. And everyone knows what they are used for. Truly.

I recently bought these MFI certified lightning cables from Kogan and they work fine with my iPhone 5S and iPhone 6+. A previous lot of cables I got from Kogan were junk and didn't work at all — they got me to cut them in half and send them a photo and they posted a refund to my card. HOWEVER, the crap cables were not sold as "MFI certified" whereas these new ones are. The new ones are also noticeably more sturdily made. Still, $21 for three cables that probably cost Kogan <$1 for the three of them together is a bit rich.

recently bought these MFI certified lightning cables from Kogan

They are not MFi certified. It is a false claim.

  • ~$7 for a proper MFi cable is about right and is about what I paid for a Belkin one in a deal from here about 4 months ago.

    • ~$7 for a proper MFi cable is about right

However, these cables are not proper MFi certified cables. It is a false claim.

      • How do you know? When I use them my iPhone doesn't pop up any warning.

        • How do you know?

          1) Kogam can not produce any proof that these cables have been approved, (certified as MFi by Apple).

          2) The price is too low.

          3) Apple has informed me that they only certify 'brand name' cables.

When I use them my iPhone doesn't pop up any warning.

What phone? What version of iOS?

        • @A3Australia:

iPhone 5S with latest iOS 8 version, as well as iPhone 6 Plus with latest iOS version.

        • @danwarne:

iPhone 5S with latest iOS 8 version, as well as iPhone 6 Plus with latest iOS version.

I guess you will have to see if the cables still function after iOS 8.1.3 and later versions.

I have some JoyRoom branded Lightning cables that cost US$2.50 to $3.50 and they work on iPad Mini, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6 - all running iOS 8.1.2 - without any error/warning messages.

The thing is, the Kogan cables cost AU$7 and claim to be MFi certified - when there is no proof so far that they are MFi certified.

Or a Dollar a cable and yes works with IOS8

    • Not MFI.

      • -2

MFI is a scam, a lot of the clone cables authenticate with ios8.1 the chip has already been cracked, a lot of the MFI cables (Made for Ipod) on ebay are not really certified by apple.

      • Not MFI.

Neither are these unbranded cables from Kogan.

        • +1

Yes they are, or so they claim.

No, they are not. It is a false claim.

        • They're actually Kogan branded. As in the cables have the Kogan logo on the plugs.

Interesting, as Apple told me that they have no record of supplying a MFi certification to any Kogan company

    • LoL this seller doesn't post to any of the major Australia cities?!

  • Not MFI

  • "Kogan" have finally replied to my request for proof that these cables are MFi Certified by Apple.

    Hi Mr,

    Thank you for contacting Kogan.com.

I have been informed by the product team that the MFI certifactions are confidential.

We don't receive a certificate for the certification, we just receive Apple connectors to use in our products, therefore they are Apple approved.

We appreciate your business with us. Have a great day!

    Kindest regards,

    Michael

I read this as admitting that these cables ARE NOT MFi certified.

MFi Certifications ARE CERTAINLY NOT confidential.

These cables DO NOT have "Apple connecters".

    They ARE NOT "Apple approved".
