Prepaid with the longest expiry?

Hi all,

I'm planning on moving to London using the youth mobility visa which entitles me to 2 years over there.

Ideally, I would like to keep my current number but move over to prepaid. Any network will do I guess as long as there's a global roaming option. I'm also after something that will not expire after 3 months of no use.

Does this option exist anywhere?

  • Telstra long life is 6 months as I recall.

Actually it depends on how much you recharge, so it's probably not worth it https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

$5.00 is all you need to spend for an Aldi sim & it will last 1 year.
      Enough said.

      • This is great but no roaming option at the moment.

My bad didn't read the part about roaming. Thought you just didn't want to number to be lost.

Vodaphone has a 365 day prepaid which suits me, cause I make very few calls. Any credit lasts a year/ they won't cancel the number if there's unexpired credit on it. If you still have some credit at the end of the 365 days, you add some more credit and the lot "rolls over" for another year. I don't know about the roaming factor; but I'm not sure why you'd want to bother with roaming anyway… why not just "park" your number here in Oz with something like this VP one or the Aldi one, and get a new number/roaming SIM to use OS? I'm no expert, but I reckon any prepaid plan would chew through credit while 'roaming', at an alarming rate.

Maybe OP just wants it to receive SMS codes from various websites, banks etc when transacting online?

      • Ah yes, maybe.

      • Yes exactly this.

I dont really plan on making calls or sending messages but on the rare occasion someone tried to reach me where I haven't updated my number this would come in handy.

I do plan on getting a local sim when I get there as well.

I think Vodaphone is the best option it seems. As Aldi don't currently have roaming available.

Been using this for the last 12 months for a mobile number I wish to keep around. If the bill is less than $10, it gets carried over to the next month. No expiry date, no minimum spending, just pay what you use or pay nothing at all.
Sim card can be bought from any mobile retailer.

    • It says credit valid for 90days ?
