Do You Have to Service The Car at The Place It Was Purchased?

Bit of context:
I bought a second hand mazda 3 (my first car) and looking at the log books the first owners serviced it periodically at the one mazda centre, where they bought it from.

Because it's a long drive to get to that specific centre can I just show up at a different mazda centre and ask them to service it on the same day? Is there an importance of going to the centre the car was purchased from? This is my first car and I really have no clue, and although these seem like stupid questions I want to be crystal clear so I can ensure my car's longevity is maximised.

    No,

it doesnt even have to be at a mazda centre.

Absolutely not. You can take it to any mechanic that offers logbook servicing and it will not avoid your warranty.
The likes of Ultratune, Autobarn, RAC, etc can all offer you car servicing that doesn't void your warranty, and at a much lower price than the Mazda dealership.

  • you can have the car serviced anywhere you want, the only exception I know of is if the car was purchased with an extended warranty (one purchased from the dealer that covers the car for more time after the manufacturers warranty runs out)even if it was purchased with and extended warranty it is highly unlikely that the warranty is still valid after the vehicle has changed hands,

summing up if you already have a good mechanic take it there.

    New car warranty or extended?

if the car is still under new car warranty you can take it anywhere you want that is authorised to log book service them.
if it is out of new car warranty and you purchased extended warranty the contract you signed will say it must be serviced with them.
any work done by another company without authorisation will not be recognised and will void the warranty.

  • The original owners probably lived close to the place it was bought from and found it convenient to get it serviced there too. As the folks said above, there are plenty of places that do logbook servicing and the Mazda dealership is probably the most expensive.

I get my car serviced with LubeMobile, mostly for convenience as they can do it at tmy house or even in the carpark at work. I dont need to make special arrangements for the day because the car is being serviced.

You may find that when they purchased the car it came with fixed-price servicing, or even free servicing for a period of time, which may be why they had it serviced at the dealership.

Check if car still cover by manufacturer warranty. If still is there as warranty condition has to sevice by authorise service dealer. If not free to go any where. But problem is part what they use for service might be risk for your car where Mazda dealer has own products parts.

    • Incorrect. Ignore.

  • I bought a Jazz in April 2014 that came with 5 years roadside and 5 years warranty, does this 5 years warranty come as "Extended warranty" and thus needs to be serviced by Honda to keep the warranty valid?

    Whereabouts are you located?
If you're in Sydney, I can suggest you a really trustworthy person who can look after your car.
He looks after all my family's cars and really can't fault his work.
PM me if you're interested :)
