Hi, it cant be just me,, but third party accessories, and cables in particular for my ipad air(1st gen)often don't work,, for example a 2 metre cable from Kmart when plugged in to my ipad comes up with the message stating it wont charge etc. Genuine Apple accessories are an absolute rip-off, I see plenty of cheap cables advertised on ebay, but will they charge my device? Any useful advice welcomed. Thanks.
APPLE certified cables, are there any reasonably priced ones that work?

thanks I returned the Kmart one, no argument from staff at all, but I wonder why they sell them if they don't work.
I don't own any Apple devices to test, but you can bypass the check..
http://www.mobileburn.com/22031/news/ios-7-blocks-uncertifie…I've found the cheap ones from Kogan charge a phone but won't charge an iPad. Although they were meant to charge both.

Maybe this will help.
When that deal was posted here, jv(?) mentioned that Target had certified cables cheaper than $12.50.
good deal.. just purchased
although after i purchased i realised its 4-5 weeks til they ship!!
The free cable that I received from Kogan worked for 2 weeks and then I received standard error message. Interestingly, the battery icon seems like charging but battery stuck at 10%.
The freebie Kogan works for me (lighting cable). I do get an error message on the phone when plugging in the PC, but it still charges.
I'm pretty annoyed at the quality of the genuine cables. The sheathing of my genuine cables easily fall apart exposing the wiring eventually killing the cables. It's (apparently) a $20 product; the quality needs to be like one.
My experience is quite the opposite.
My 6-year-old genuine Apple cable (pre-Lightning) is still fully intact, though not used as much anymore. I also have a few high-use Lightning cables aged 2 months to 3 years, all strong and working.
I have ~10 "compatible" (cheapie, not-MFi certified) cables, most dead, and half the ones working have exposed cabling.
I bought a supposedly genuine Apple cable from ebay awhile back, it lasted 3 weeks and then stopped working. My 3yr old broke my iphone 6 cable 3 weeks after I bought the damn thing..currently using my iPad cable but would also like a cheap reliable replacement.
I've never had a cable fail on me. I use the 'geniune' cables mostly (ie the cable the device came with), but I also have a bunch of $1 kogan cables which work fine for me. Is everone else just unlucky?
similar here- I'm surprised at how many people are like "all cheapo cables have never worked for me". In the last 6 years I've had maybe 4 cheap cables fail on me but these have been after using them nearly everyday for a significant period with multiple devices. with such usage I would expect any cable to eventually wear out. most of the cables I buy are free or near free (e.g. kogan, gearbest, etc).
I bought some belkin car charger kits on eBay a while back and the cables that came with it are still going strong. I figured that the charger + cable (and free shipping) worked out to be a lot cheaper than a genuine cable in Australia and I had nothing to lose if it died. Now I have too many car chargers and 5 MFI lightning cables that work very well for about $55.

are these the ones you bought?
what seems a bit ambiguous is whether or not the cable is also belkin instead of just the charger.
if they are both belkin, that is very cheap!scratch that, seems like its 6 dollars.. not 1
It could've been the ones I bought, there are so many similar ones out there I don't even know which are legit. The cables that came with my chargers were belkin and were packaged together in Belkin packaging and I paid $11 for mine. I purchased my chargers and cables from a seller which had better feedback and this $6 one could be the same thing. I guess it can't hurt to try, if it's not legit I'm sure you can do a chargeback or something.
Target apparently have a 3rd party certified Lightning cable.
