Digital TV on a laptop

Anyone know of a device like this, that allows me to view FTA DTV on a laptop?

Or perhaps my question should be - does THIS device allow me to do it? ;-) (Different countries using different standards, is my concern.)

I have something similar called WandTV, and while I haven't used it for a while it does work on Aussie Digital TV. Got mine from Zazz from a long, long time ago.

    DX Link if you're curious.

Some notes: the software that came with mine is positively ancient and didn't run on 64 bit operating systems. However, Windows Media Centre picked it up with no issues and there was no need to manually install drivers. Tested on Windows 7 (untested on Win8). The dongle has a tendency to heat up fairly rapidly when watching TV.

  • Hm… Ok, thanks.

  • Have an old generic USB HDTV DVB-T tuner bought of eBay for like $16 years ago. Still works fine.

  • aldi had computer tv tuners in the display case when i went there yesterday

Yes, saw one - I like to ask here, because people often contribute things one isn't even aware of.

  • A lot of grey nomads and other travellers use the TV USB tuners for laptops now so they don't have to cart a TV with them.
Their gain strength can be somewhat lower than a regular tv so don't expect miracles if not in a good reception area.
Make sure the one you choose on does the HD channels as well as some of the very cheap ones omit this feature.
Take a look at what is available on the market here..

I think the area I'll be using it has excellent reception. (In the city near beaches.) But I also rarely watch TV - don't have one in the house - and haven't watched it for a couple of years. So really it's only to have something to experiment with for a few minutes to pass some time I guess. Thanks for the link, I take a look.

  • If you watch tv on regular basis, buy a tv. If you rarely watch it, just use catch up tv online services. ABC news has a 24 news online stream too.

No need to mess around with dtv usbs

  • Does anyone know any that are plug and play?
