Moved to Forum: Original Link

Just bought the last $20 XBOX One wireless controller at The Good Guys Essendon from the bargain tray; not sure whether this is for other TGG or just this one.

I've attached the invoice (and white out the personal info, incl the sales person details, just in case it cause any trouble for him/her).

  • Now what I need is wireless receiver to be able to connect it to the PC/MAC to play Steam games remotely…anyone know where to grab bargain with this wireless receiver (or perhaps get the different brand than Microsoft one)?

    • eBay has dozens upon dozens of chinese knock off receivers… i have 2 and they work just fine… in fact my original MS one has died and my knock offs are still great… go figure

      • I suspect you are using PC? Do you know whether these wireless receiver works with MAC? (I'd like to play steam games that is compatible with mac using that wireless controller)

These don't work with One. Stop sprouting advice you have no idea about.

    • I didn't think you could get it for the Xbox One controller yet.

      • Yay, it will works with Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows as long as I install the correct driver.

Although it doesn't say compatible with mac

I'm not seeing where it says the Xbox One controller works wirelessly with PC

        • @mjcowley: it's in the fine print..

        • Hm…true; although last paragraph of that page is bit odd, as it is located in the XBOX one controller section, but talking about xbox 360 controller:

If you want to use an Xbox 360 Controller with your computer, you can use an Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. Or, you can use an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller together with an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows.

        • @bargainhunter: Sorry, can you copy and paste or give me a link. I don't see any fine print. Also, every website I'm visiting claims you need a USB cable to use the Xbox One controller with your PC.

        • @televisi: Yep, I know about the 360 and have the wireless dongle running on my PC now. However, it's not really clear on that page how you connect the Xbox One controller.

        • @mjcowley:

I"m chatting with Ms support as I type this reply; let me check with them, whether xbox one wireless is compatible with xbox 360 wireless receiver

        • @televisi: Cheers

        • @mjcowley:
MS chat support responses are ambiguous, he said that there is "xbox one wireless receiver" in the market.

But upon google (or bing, considering I'm speaking with Ms rep hehe); no results found.

I then asked for the SKU/model number, and he referred me to the MS store hotline….so strange…

I then found the following link: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-…

Looks like it is compatible….but let's wait for the Ms chat support confirm this…

        • @televisi:

Okay, just finished having a chat with Ms chat support; the result is, I need to contact Ms Store rep directly to get the item….not really happy with the result of the discussion.

I might go to EB / JB and check their availability of xbox 360 wireless receiver (as I found nothing on "xbox one wireless receiver" anywhere, and test this myself in the store prior purchasing them….

          @televisi:
          It won't work, ffs.

    • XBox One controller works with micro USB cable if you don't need it to be wireless. I got one to play FIFA World.

      • +1

Thanks, will try that combination too (although it's defeat the purpose of buying wireless hehe, but for $20 I shouldn't be complaining…. apart from my wife who complains my impulse buying habit) :p

      • Hopefully, a wireless dongle or drivers get released for it too.

360 and One use completely different wireless standards for the controllers. They definitely aren't cross compatible. THERE IS NO WINDOWS RECIVER FOR XBOX ONE CONTROLLER YET.

Wish people with no idea wouldn't "help" others.

      Wow guys.
Xbox One controller will NOT work wirelessly with the PC. The Xbox 360 receiver uses a completely different frequency and technology and won't work with the One controller.

It's not all bad news though, all you need is a micro USB to USB cable and you can hook up the Xbox One controller to PC. Download the Beta drivers (from http://majornelson.com/2014/06/05/pc-drivers-for-the-xbox-on…) and you're on your way.

      Good luck.

I doubt anyone else will get for this price

  • Not sure how you got one so cheap unless it was a returned (used) item thus being in the bargain bin.

    • Fair point… I've just checked the box, it's still sealed (as in sealed by the manufacturer with the round sticker at the bottom of the box, not re-sealed by TGG)

  • IS there a MS cashback going on this?

  • I thought all Good Guy stores had sold all their gaming stuff by now?

    • +1

Nope.my store still has a dozen of gaming related stuff.there was even 2 Xbox 360 consoles and 3 ps3's.

The other stuff are just games and some Nintendo accsories

      • +2

And which store would that be? :)

  • +1

Anyone confirm for another store in sydney

  • +4

For your information guys The Good Guys do not do gaming anymore, they have been clearing all remaining stock for a while now, so if you find a bargain grab it. Some stores have been slower in clearing there range then others, if you go to there website you will see that you cannot purchase anything online related to gaming.

  • Does or can this work with Android tablets?

    • dont think so, it can work with the wireless gaming receiver or wired xbox360 controller with an OTG adaptor cable. I've tried unsuccessfully with the XBONE controller, I suspect this to be a driver issue.

  • Save the receipt if you want, as suspect this post will be deemed Insufficient Quantity.

  • was that the only one left at that store?
