Dell has reduced the price of this monitor substantially.
Competition from a newer release model is most likely the main reason.

Might also be possible to use this offer in conjunction with the coupon code that was posted earlier on Ozbargain; will leave it to wiser people with personal experience of submitting coupons to discuss the possibility:

EDIT:
best purchased with the updated coupon code (thanks to Pokitodki) and the RACV 15% discount code for your participating state (if you are member) bringing the final price down to $594.

  • thats the old model, isnt it?

Nice! The coupon code from the ozbargain link provided is out of date - the current one from the Dell site is 9ZV6ZFHV4FD191. Brings it down to $628.82, not counting the 7% cashback from MoneyCo.

    • Yup, the new coupon works fine in checkout (I haven't completed the purchase, though).

Anyone know what's the deal with MoneyBackCo and Dell?

I've made two purchases in the past 18 months with Dell (both using coupons), but never received the MBC cashback on both occasions. I haven't had issues with MBC when buying from other vendors. I seem to remember reading a comment somewhere that Dell don't pay the referral fee to MBC if the purchase was made using coupons — seems to be a bit tricky of Dell, if true.

  • Whats the difference between this and say a benq 2420HD which can be had from itestate for $229. The BenQ also has HDMI

The 2408WFP has a higher quality S-PVA panel as opposed to the cheaper TN panel in the Benq 2420HD.

S-PVA panels are capable of 8-bit colour and can display the full 16.7 million colour output of graphics cards, whereas TN panels have 6-bit colour and use dithering to mimic many of those colour shades. Being able to display a fuller spectrum of colour without dithering is particularly important if one works with graphics, photography, film or other tasks where colour is important.

S-PVA panels also boast much better viewing angles and contrast ratios compared to a TN panel. However, the response times of a S-PVA panel are generally slower than a TN or IPS panel, so they may not be the best choice if you're a hardcore gamer.

The differences between a high quality S-PVA or IPS panel and an TN are readily discernible when compared side-by-side. That being said, a TN panel will probably suit most people just fine. :)

      • Great explanation!! Thanks

      • I can happily say that the 2408WFP is awesome for gaming. No ghosting, no discernible input lag, best monitor i've ever owned and i game alot

        • I have a Samsung 245T at home, which I believe has the same panel as the 2408WFP (it's a S-PVA in any case), and probably the only area I notice some ghosting is watching TV sports (with my EyeTV tuner). Like you, I've got no complaints when it comes to gaming with this monitor, but then again I'm not a hardcore FPSer trying to eek out every millisecond of advantage.

Typing "2408WFP lag" into Google shows plenty of complaints about the response times, though, so I guess some people are fussy enough to find it an issue. :)

        • i have the benq. i use it for gaming. for those who dont have really discerning eyes. get the cheap monitors. but if you plan to do like professional photoshopping or have sensitive eyes that notice detail etc etc. get a better panel. You will notice the difference

i couldnt tell the difference until my friend told me to open paint full screen and fill the screen with different solid colours. You see gradients

  • Very Good price, But I would rather buy the new Dell UltraSharp U2410 RRP$799 (it's an IPS LCD panel), which replaces the UltraSharp 2408WFP

The 2209WA Ultrasharp IPS monitor is only $305 if you use the NRMA discount. The only complaint I have about that particular model is it does not to 1:1 pixel mapping. So it is excellent for PC use, but not so good for Xbox 360, which can not output 1680 x1050 resolution via HDMI.

  • Needs to be $500 with the dollar at 92cents for me to grab a couple!

  • this is an excellent screen. i have the 2407wfp still under warranty, paid over $1100 3 years ago.. they still sell for $500+ used on feebay.

highly recommended for anyone who needs colour accuracy/decent viewing angles etc.

  • 16 months ago i upgraded from a Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP (1920x1200) to a ViewSonic VX2835wm 28" (1920x1200) for $550 Never used new in box with (factory defect 1 dead pixel) normal 1 year warranty

It was soooo good as a gaming monitor that my friend got himself one at the same time normal no dead pizel for $799 and trust me when i say that gaming on the ViewSonic 28" is ALLOT better then the Dell 24"

Its also allot better for movies and HD TV.

This deal gets a big thumbs down from me! "maybe if it was cheaper"

    • What? How can u give this a neg, this is no doubt one of the best 24" monitors around. Try finding a non-TN panel 24" monitor for anywhere near this price. So what if you upgraded to a alrger monitor, how does that make this a bad deal exactly?

I have one of these myself and they are an awesome monitor.

I don't see why you went from a 24" to a 28" there is no advantage, both are the same resolution, so all you are getting is a bigger pixel pitch. Plus you've gone from a PVA to an inferior TN panel.

  • I'm not saying its a bad monitor I’m just saying that at twice the price of a 24" TN panel its not a bargain.

And from my experience with the Dell 24" PVA VS the ViewSonic 28" TN its not worth it.. I make websites and use photoshop all the time for Art with a graphics tablet and i find the 28" much easier to work with then the 24". I also ordered 10x Viewsonic 28" monitors to replace 24" dells in the office for CAD work and everyone also found them to be an improvement.
