  • You can get them on eBay, but they cost a ton. Why not the Fagor Duo?

    • where can I get Fagor Duo? It's just as hard finding them here :(

  • I've heard how awesome these are but why not an electric pressure cooker eg tefal minut cook? It's been fantastic for us to not have to worry about timing and it's abt $110-120

    • AFAIK, electrics can't reach the same pressures (15 PSI?) that the stove-top ones can.

  • Hm… Both sources I had for the Fagor Duo no longer stock it. Oh well, there's always Amazon - it's cheaper anyway.

Keep in mind though, KMart is selling one on clearance for $30. I think it's 6L capacity. I know what kind of faults to look for, and it seems well-built. (Unlike nearly everything else in KMart the last few years.) It's much better quality in the handle area than the one Aldi have had two or three times now.

KMart one comes with a second seal, which usually costs about $15 with other brands. So it's dirt cheap really. (The two seals alone would be worth $30.) Nearly bought one myself in fact - but I hate giving my money to KMart - it only encourages them to import more landfill.

Electric ones are a con. Lower pressure = longer cooking time = uses more power than a saucepan type one on a stovetop. Sure, you can set a timer. But how fast do people want meals made!? Most take 20 minutes or less in a 15psi stovetop P.C. If it's the cutting up of the food and having it on a timer that's the benefit with an electric - then still cut the stuff up in the morning and tip it into the traditional type P.C. at night. Have a shower and the meal is ready. And you didn't have to worry all day about your house burning down because some made-in-china appliance was turned on all day.

Standard pot P.C. also last what - 20 years or more? Not many electric kitchen appliances will.

Yes, 15psi is the ideal pressure. If the P.C. doesn't do 15 (or very close to it in some cases - like 14psi), don't even buy it. Again, you'll pay for extra electricity and have longer cooking times for years, making electric ones an odd purchase.

Oh - and the KMart one is 15psi.
