My wife is from Indonesia, and she wants to buy her younger brother (who is still at Uni) a laptop. It doesn't need to be a gaming rig, he just needs it for uni and general web browsing. We're travelling there on 1st March and plan to buy it within the 60 day window so we can claim the GST back via TRS.
Computer parts & laptops are generally more expensive in Indonesia than they are here, so hoping to find something reasonable in the after Christmas sales.
I would like it to have at least an i5 (or AMD equivalent) and minimum 4GB RAM, Windows 8.1 pre-installed, bonus points for it having an SSD or hybrid drive.
Can anyone recommend any deals that they may have seen out and about at the moment? Something that will still be available by the end of January would be good.
Cheers
I used to have a laptop from South Korea, which was a present. When it broke down because of overheating issues with that model, I couldn't get it fixed in Australia because of issues with parts. This obviously doesn't mean that all laptops are like this and you might save more from buying from here, but it is something that you should keep in mind.
That being said, Dell outlet often has good deals.
Also, I think https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176984 fits your description (No SSD though).
