  • Not a brand name I recall seeing much of - had to Google them.

Aircon is a long way from spaceships and missiles.. but yeah seems like a decent price for this size aircon unit.

Convair has been around since before my grandmother was born.

I bought a Convair evaporative cooler about 10 years ago from HN. Build quality seems OK. Nothing special.

a bit like how AWA used to be a good brand name but is now just cheapie rebadged stuff. Convair is the same.

I remember my parents had a Convair evaporator back when I was a kid, I am 50 now.

Convair is cheap generic crap. There is nothing brand name about them.

  • If it can last more than 2 years then it would be better than these dodgy splits Kelvinator have been selling

    • What's wrong with the Kelvinator splits from the GG? I just bought one from the eBay 20% sale…

      • Yeah not very good. Ive had all the kelvinators fail within 2 years and im not the only one if ya have a look at productreview. And electrolux will give you the run around.
Maybe you might have a better experience.

  • Same model at The Good Guys. Price Match and use Store Credit if you have it.

Don't count on them cooling/heating much with only 2.6W/2.9W. ;)

    • That completely depends on the room size.

This would serve perfectly a smaller room/bedroom. Google is your friend to find the right size AC for the room. And don't trust the shop assistants, it is in their interest to sell you a bigger unit.

That completely depends on the room size.

        2.6W (not 2.6kW)
You'll be lucky to cool a can of softdrink.

        • Ah didn't see that :-)

Information on the model can be found here: http://convaircooler.com/au/products/cooling/split-system-re…

Found this amusing: Sensible Cooling Capacity (kW) (Estimated) 1.78kw
    Power Input cooling: 0.67(0.32~1.08)

Not very efficient. Would suggest saving an additional $200 and getting something (alot) better. Install costs would be the same either way.

  • Got this for roughly the same price on the eBay 20% off sale in November.
Installation cost $500 with compliance certificate supplied.
    Has 5 year warranty
Happy so far and very quiet for me.

  • Can you advise who did you installation. I went to hn and they started with 600 and the rep said it could be 300 more because there was no concrete on the outside or he may have to mount the unit in the outside wall

    • Do you have any solid masonary walls near where the unit is going to go?

    • Got a plumber from Service Seeking, who organised his own electrician subby.
He even wall mounted the outside unit on brick, well above ground.

  • The outside wall is solid brick. Just want to know roughly what a standard install range should be in eastern melbourne area. Thanks

in SE qld we had prices from $350 to $800, cheapest price was from Gumtree but he was booked out for too far ahead. I'd be inclined to look for fridgie who works with a sparky rather than a sparky with an A/C ticket.
FWIW we paid $550 incl wall brackets. The guy was on his own and was here for about 7 hours all up. Pipe run was only 2.5mtrs but we wanted it wired back to the switchboard to get a cheaper tariff.
