I just bought a Macbook Air from Dick Smith.
They have a 10% off sale (finishes today) and Officeworks has the exact same pricing.
I couldn't buy the 11' 128GB model from Officeworks - none in store anywhere in the state and website wouldn't allow online purchase.
So I buy it through DS website.
Put it in cart, go to checkout, choose pick-up in store but, again, no stores anywhere with stock.
Have to choose delivery.
No additional price added for delivery.
Go to Paypal - it shows original price and I agree to pay it.
When I return to the DS website all of a sudden - and after I had already authorised payment through paypal of the original price - they want to add on another $10 for delivery.
There doesn't seem anyway to avoid the fee so I click 'update order' wondering how they would collect the $10 fee as I'd already paid the lesser amount through Paypal.
Well, suprise sur-bloody-prise - they somehow had magically added the delivery fee to the Paypal transaction I had already approved?!?
How in the hell can they do this?

The order isn't confirmed until you return to the DS website and complete the transaction. This is one of the standard PayPal workflows…
I don't think it's a scam, you still still have the option to cancel the transaction before finalising it.
OK not a legit illegal scam, but it's scammy dodgy. Some people might be in a hurry or just not see it and have to pay it.
Could be more transparent. Then again DSE is buggy so could just be a glitch in not providing total to PayPal.
forget macbook, you need to buy the latest dictionary.
I've seen this happen to a few other retailers as well over the last few days.
Mightyape & also yourhomedepot
It asks you to confirm order once you have approved with paypal. It hasn't put it through yet.
