Is there some way to verify that these are genuine Apple cables and not fakes? Has someone bought these in a previous deal with Groupon?

Just get licensed 3rd party ones from Target. Similar price to these and 1.2 metres.

I ordered fake ones for $1 from AliExpress, working perfectly. Even if they were half the quality, I can buy a dozen for this price :)
Don't think it makes sense to spend so much on a cable…

      • I have ordered a lot of fakes too and I find them to be hit and miss.
(To be fair, the legit cables are also hit and miss in terms of build quality…)

I have some fakes right now which will charge my 5S but not my 5.

  • Only 1 metre :(

If they are real apple cables, the quality's pretty different to fake cables (not to mention the unfortunate incident of someone passing away due to electrocution, was either due to using a counterfeit charger or cable that didn't comply with safety standards).

Are the third party cables from Target Belkin?

      EDIT:
Think these are the ones you were referring to:

incident of someone passing away due to electrocution

That was the charger, nothing to do with the cable

      • +1

you mean alleged electrocution by a usb charger.

      • The $12 Target one is only 10cm long.

        .

Licensed third party cables (which I assumed the Target one is) are the same as Apple cables for all practical purposes and equally 'safe'.

Even a counterfeit cable cannot possibly electrocute you if it's plugged in to a USB port.
Equally, while there is probably a fuse or something, a genuine cable is not guaranteed to stop you from getting electrocuted from a malfunctioning charger.

whilst the comments in this post are useful to some the question stil REMAINS - can they be verified as APPLE. The point of having and being APPLE is that if the cable breaks or faults with in a year it can be returned and replaced at ANY apple store. If this wasnt the case then why the heck would you pay 16$ for a cable u can get for under 1$

    • Well, they're advertised as original Apple cables. I've gone trhough at least 6 fake cables before and I don't mind paying a bit extra for a cable that keeps on working after each iOS update (reducing landfill at the same time).

I wouldn't trust Groupon to provide genuine cables for this price - I would strongly suspect these were fake.

Genuine ones are $18 at Big W at the moment

    • Thanks so much mate!!!!

    • To be honest, I wouldn't trust them either.
They've been putting a bit of rubbish out from China based sellers.

  • Ebayer sell the Belkin brand for $5.95

Not sure if this genuine or not, seems legit tho?

    • Paypal has no-questions asked refunds for fake products so worth a shot.

I bought 2x green and 1x black of these, all unboxed. They seem to be legitimate. Look and feel is right and my iPhone 6 charges from a genuine wall charger with them no problems and they charge and sync with my PC. iOS 8.1.2

I did have an issue in the car with the black one but the charger was likely the issue there.
