70

Have been on the lookout for a cheapie all region blu ray player and stumbled across this. Seems pretty decent for the price assuming you do not require internet connectivity or 3D:

Meet Australia's reigning best value Blu-ray Player with 1080p Full High Definition Video, Dolby and DTS Digital HD, DVD upscaling, USB media player and all the great Blu-ray features all that you need and nothing you don't.

region-code-free-s

All of our Blu-ray players are guaranteed MULTI-REGION playback for Blu-ray and DVD discs, meaning you can play discs from any country (like movies you buy from Amazon or overseas). The BD1000 also plays a multitude of file formats including those which have i- built playback restrictions like Cinevia.

But wait….. there's more! We also give you a 6 week trial of unlimited movie rentals from Quickflix. That's the premium bundle which includes Blu-ray, DVD and movie streaming (for your PC or tablet)

These were selling at GG for around $75 brand new.

Yes, I bought one and it stopped working after 2 months, won't display anything, seems to be a common problem, buyer beware

Oh and it's not really region free, no such thing for Bluray, have to manually change the region every time you play a movie

      • Hook up a PC with a Blu Ray drive to a TV, problem solved

        • I was looking into buying a bluray drive for PC so I could watch purchased movies. There's no free sofware that I could find to decode the bluray movies. You need to purchase something like PowerDVD etc :(

        • @zenturio: I had a Sony Vaoi laptop that worked with a region locked blu Ray, but I guess if you want more than a player…

  • Hrmmm I'm very tempted. Really all I wanted was a DVD player with HDMI out but DVD up scaling is a nice addition. I don't own any Blu Rays…

And a Quickflix subscription, that's kinda cool.

Be aware that this unit has 3 month warranty as opposed to 3 years on a new unit, which was a huge issue for me.

    • The spec sheet says 36 months warranty on the mobile website.

      • Yes there's also this on the full website:

These products come with full 90 day LASER warranty
from the date of invoice and full accessories.

    • Jbhifi gives a better warranty period. Maybe if you are after a cheap player keep an eye out on their factory scoop section. They tend to pop up quite often with the Soniq players.

Currently Soniq also has the portable player with LCD screen for 70 bucks plus shipping. Comes with hdmi port so can be used as normal player too.

      • Does the portable player have a remote?

        • Yup it does.

I've had 2 of these. Have found them to be pretty good.

  • Bought it. Mine was $53.68 total. Edit: Shipping was $12.10 although the invoice says $11.
