Old Nokia phone

I purchased my MIL a new phone for Christmas to replace her old Nokia 3315 that she has had for 10 years. It is still In great condition but she wanted a flip phone. I was going to recycle it with planet ark but she told me the Telstra lady said they are sought after. Does anyone know what it might be worth or where to sell it. There are none on eBay. Thanks

  • Just give it away on Freecycle if you want someone to have the use of it. It's still a good uncomplicated phone for those who don't need any frills.

Chuck it on ebay with $0 reserve and take whatever you can get. Remember, you were happy to bin it at one point!

Recycle it at a electronics recycle bin at Officeworks, or give away.

This particular phone is sought after by electronics hobbyists because the Liquid crystal display is driven by a PCD8544 chip and it's libraries are publicly available on the internet — it is compatible with the Raspberry Pi GPIO interface.

The display is sold at Adafruit for $10 dollars. http://www.adafruit.com/product/338

I don't see why an average person would seek out a phone this old, it only does 2G and if you are a Telstra user, you should have received news that Telstra is shutting down their 2G networks.

  • Thanks everyone. I will drop it to office works.

I'll suggest you give it out to someone who's in need of such a phone. You'd be happy you did.

  • How to find someone who needs a working phone - for those of us who have a small collection? Drop it in to a charity or what …

You can just create an Ad on a popular classified site around your Neighbourhood, listing the phone as FREE. Someone who needs it will show up somehow.

isnt it a 2G only phone meaning it wont work soon since the networks are turning off 2G?
